Two firsts for Hagel is expensive, people are acting like hes a pending UFA though, he's under contract for another 3 years at a very low cap hit, in a flat cap world, this was a hockey deal, not a typical deadline deal, much like when Mantha went from Detroit to Washington.

At the deadline, Hampus Lindholm or Girodano or any pending UFA are not going to fetch anything close to the Hagel deal.

Not too many guys like that except for Comtois.

The others who have some control are pending RFA's, and that could be expensive for us even if we still control them after this year.
I would do Dermott with a big plus for Comtois. The Leafs don't have one of these whereas they have a number of other players in their system that look a lot alike

Joey Anderson?

Two guys that were PPG+ in the AHL at 22, one of them strong defensively are a step up from Andersen IMO. Lets just say 2 1sts and two better Andersens.

Still looks insane to me for a guy whos calling card is sitting at 38th for 5v5 goals/60 (and whose teammate Kubalik is actually sitting at 28th in the same category over the last 3 years). I understand the caphit and term is great but just a huge gamble. They could have done better with that package no? Maybe they just love the kid and think he's going to break out even harder (including developing his D)?

Edit, both played wing this year.

He's proven he can stay fit this season, I'd say he's going to price himself off the team unless he wants to stay with Kampf
think he's going to get another shorter term deal regardless of where he signs. And depending on what the Leafs end up doing with goalies I think they'll have just enough to ink him If they want to. I don't think he's going to get a 3.5-4.5 mil deal that will price himself out as soon as next season.

If dermott is going to get traded he has to be worth what? At least a 2 right?

Could we trade him and then give seattle two 2nds? For gio?

I am looking at Sam Bennett, Tyson Jost, Jake Bean, Jonas Siegenthaler, etc. right now.

Looks mostly like a 2nd round pick is probably the baseline for a Travis Dermott or a Max Comtois, but neither are getting 1sts unless someone wants to overpay.

I think you move Dermott to a 3rd party team, take that pick and add a decent forward prospect to the package for Comtois. Start with SDA/Ovchinnikov, counter with Miettinen/Voit, and then think long and hard about including anyone better than that. That should be the approach.

Friedman on what Toronto might do ahead of the trade deadline:

I don’t think he (Dubas) wants to trade his first-rounder. I don’t think he wants to trade his top prospects for a rental. I do think [Travis] Dermott’s going to get traded. I think everybody here realizes it’s time for a fresh start, team and player, so I think regardless of whatever happens, I think he’s getting moved. So, I think they’re going to try and get one or two defencemen and I think they’re also going to see if they can get a depth forward. It’s a hard thing, like [Wayne] Simmonds and [Jason] Spezza, they’re such great pro’s and they’re such great people, but I think they feel they need to upgrade the fourth line."

You know, one thing I’ve heard is I think they’ve been asked about [Pierre] Engvall and I think they’ve said no. The same for [Ilya] Mikheyev. I think they’ve been asked about Mikheyev and I think they’ve said no. I think they’ve said ‘Look, that line this year has been one of their best lines, why would we do that?’ So I think Dubas could do a couple defencemen and a forward, and some of it might be moving money around.

When you win back-to-back cups....you could care less about overpaying. Tampa's loaded for the next 6-7 years. Who cares about 1st rd picks in their late 30's. They tryin to win more cups.

love that plan, I think a Comtois - Tavares - Nylander line would be solid for the playoffs, and he can move around to any of our lines if needed

Tampa just got even better and grittier. Tampa GM knows how to build around his superstars. Both Florida and Tampa both know how important Toughness/Scrapinness is needed in the playoffs.

Jacob Middleton isn't a sexy name but he would be a great addition in the back end. Tampa's forward group plays with insane pressure and physicality. We need a net-front presence in the back end.

For 4th line forwards....Sam Carrick or Johan Larrson would be great adds.

Clutterbuck would've been great too but he's owed too much $$

He's smaller than Kerfoot and has less hits this year.

Neither of which really describes Hagel.

lol what.

Hagel is an extremely gritty forward with skill. Another Goodrow/Coleman type. They're literally re-doing what they did a couple of trade deadlines ago.

Tampa system is gonna turn this dude into an extremely annoying pest. There's a reason all their young star players play with intensity and grit (Cirelli, Kucherov, Pointe)

You're right two fight and a video of him getting knocked down and lying there for a minute has completely changed the fact that he's 170 pounds and hits less often than Kerfoot does. I'm sure he's an annoying agitator, we got a better one for 950k without spending any picks.

Coleman and Goodrow comparisons are a stretch here, they both have 25-30 pounds on him with comparable offensive skills.
