Is that needed after April 1st ?? Aaron Judge played here last year for the Yanks and only he knows if he is vaccinated.

Yes it is. A few days ago there was a story from the NY Yankees manager expressing concern that their unvaxxed guys would not be able to play in Toronto. It's the same for Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets, he can't come here to play the Raptors. In the NHL so few players are unvaxxed it hasn't really been a story but it's still there.

The rules could change at any moment, but as of now those are still the rules.

There were exceptions in place last year that are no longer in place. I believe last year, players were allow to come to Canada and play but were restricted to their hotel when not playing.

What changes April 1st? Is that a provincial thing or a federal thing? The ban on unvaccinated travelers entering Canada is a federal restriction.

There has been a fair amount of talk in baseball circles about unvaccinated players being unable to play in Toronto,.

And speaking of Aaron Jusge, unless the current rules change in New York City, he won't be able to play in New York eith if he's unvaccinated.

Bottom line is despite the huge prices I don't think these trades make FLA or TB any more dangerous or intimidating tbh.

FLA seems likely to get Giroux who's still good as well.

I mean no deals at the deadline are ever going to move a cup contender more than like 1-2% more likely to win so you could really react like this to everything.

Actually the biggest possible increase in Cup chances for any team would probably be us getting an elite goalie (not happening, just saying)

With these f***ed up prices it's clear that it's a sellers market again. At this point I'm okay with standing pat over paying a king's ransom for an expiring deal

So Dermott out, a guy like Hagg/Kulak/Lauzon back in to replace him for less than we likely get for Dermott (otherwise it doesn't really make sense to move Dermott now), and then get a 4th line forward to upgrade Simmonds. Good news is the 4th line forward market is fairly saturated, so we shouldn't have to pay a premium price for an upgrade. Same with the depth defense market. We only need a #8 who can play LD.

Seems like that should be what is expected.

Goalie market is still a TBD. Short of Fleury vetoing us altogether, that could be an option for us in the final hour if Chicago doesn't get their price before then. None of these outsiders truly know what is going to happen with Varlamov either. If it is not one of those two, then it is likely Campbell-Mrazek.

One thing you need to keep in mind is the re-trade value if Hagel ends up the real deal. The over pay amount is suddenly washed.
Good point. Another reason why good young players with term who are RFAs at the end of their deal are so expensive.

You can easily make back some or more of what you initially traded for them if they live up to their expectations. The value will live in the player itself by what you can get if you decided to trade them at that point in time.

Hagel just needs to live up to his own end of being good and not turn out to just be all hype, and Tampa will most likely win this trade when it's all said and done. Those late 1sts probably have to bake until 2026-2028 before we know if Hawks won the trade so Tampa probably doesn't even care if they end up losing in the end.

As far as Leafs are concerned though, adding Hagel doesn't scare me. None of the moves do actually. Only thing capable of scaring me are our goalies

Well.. let's look at this logically.
-Tampa is most likely done!
-Florida only looking for a fw and it's giroux.
-Boston in on d but might not have the pieces plus they arnt going deep and almost rdy for transition
- Calgary done !
-edm - no cap and goalies won't waive to go there. maybe a depth move left
- st louis balking at prices.
Anyway really only us and maybe Rangers have moves left and Rangers looking for forward help or depth d. We should be able to get a d and a goalie for not an overpay now. Maybe dubas is smarter waiting as he wasn't rly in on any of these guys anyway.
I actually thought Dubas was famous, and praised for, doing all his work early.

I don't mind when he does it myself. Just make shrewd moves.

Nowhere near to being a rental deal for Tampa and they definitely didn't pay that kind of a price. The type of trade that *should* end up being a good hockey trade sometime down the road. Quite the privilege to be very much in competition with one of the teams involved!

Would you guys have done two firsts + Robertson + Knies for Hagel?

I would be thinking standalone first as most just because he's cheap and has term.

Hagel's 5v5 numbers this season on Chicago (and rank out of the 17 forwards with 100+ 5v5 minutes this season):

xGF%: 44.29 (10th out of 17)
GF%: 45.29 (7th out of 17)

Just defensively:

xGA/60: 2.63 (16th out of 17)
GA/60: 3.4 (15th out of 17)

This deal seems absolutely insane from a value standpoint. Hegel is a great producing middle sixer this year but he's got defensive holes in his game.

Helluva gamble by the Bolts on a middle six winger who could be riding a lucky shooting%.

As a comparison, Bunting was 5th and 2nd in those same xGF%/GF% stats for Arizona last season so the promise of an overall game was there.

Gio (if the price right) or Middleton and Varlamov

Too expensive to shoot very high but I would be ecstatic with that.

Katchouk and raddysh are like 24yrs old and have never established themselves as NHLers. They are not comparable to 20yr old top prospects.

They're not even Dermott-level value.

Standing pat with a group they should already be pretty content with may be the most cost effective way to go. I hope they can get Gio at a reasonable price but who knows.

Deadline buzzer beaters with sellers who held out too long only to fetch what they could last minute may be a smart plan B, call their bluff.

If we won 2 cups in the previous 2 years. Definitely!

But not when we haven't even proven to be able to get out of the first round yet.
This was also my reaction.

They won back to back cups, they're in that "thug life" mode where nobody can tell them anything. Take whatever risks they want.

Also though, you can take risks like this when you have Vasi in net and Kucherov and Point are under 30 still. If we had a bonafide elite no.1 a lot of us would have more courage to take risks too.

The thing that isn't being mentioned is Dubas can outbid these teams if he really wants someone. Knies, Niemela, Robertson, the firsts, those are prime assets. He shouldn't trade them but he has the pieces. Dubas really should just wait it out.

I wouldn't typically like to move two 1sts in any one deal (unless one of them is conditionally tied to winning a Cup) for any player that'd be reasonably attainable for such a return. Robertson and Knies in the trade would make me even more hesitant.

Yeah no chance I'm moving anybody from the 3rd line

More detail.
Here is what will likely happen. Leafs will try for Lindholm but move on if price doesn't drop. Gio will be their guy and a depth forward. Dermott will be traded in some deal.
