I think the "guys that won't be ready for 4 or 5 years" should apply to Tampa as well. They've not really given up much when you apply the logic that you often see with our trades.

I think the only difference is Tampa has successfully targeted impact players in those trades. Toronto has not, resulting in peoples reluctance to move assets.

If we moved what we moved for Nick Foligno but for Taylor Hall, I think many would be happy.

If you can identify players that will actually fit our system and contribute its always worth it.

I really wanted Sam Bennett last year. I thought he would be the perfect 3rd liner and went for less

Nick Foligno as a target wasn’t really a problem. The issue was he got injured like 2 games after he arrived in Toronto

I’m not moving Kerfoot is I’m Dubas. He’s a key player in our PK and our special teams are elite this year.

If we have the opportunity to get a player with term and need the cap space, Dubas better fcking move Kerfoot.

Well.. let's look at this logically.
-Tampa is most likely done!
-Florida only looking for a fw and it's giroux.
-Boston in on d but might not have the pieces plus they arnt going deep and almost rdy for transition
- Calgary done !
-edm - no cap and goalies won't waive to go there. maybe a depth move left
- st louis balking at prices.
Anyway really only us and maybe Rangers have moves left and Rangers looking for forward help or depth d. We should be able to get a d and a goalie for not an overpay now. Maybe dubas is smarter waiting as he wasn't rly in on any of these guys anyway.

Really depends on if that player can slot into our PK as well. Say like JT Miller. Our great special teams need to be protected. They’ve been so problematic for us in playoffs past

Wait out the market. It should still be a buyers market and all the big buyers just burned their assets.

Hard to trade players for a 1st + when few contenders still have a 1st +

Exactly what I think Dubas is doing. Could also explain why he said he was looking for defense despite already adding Lyubushkin; he knew the Toronto media would eat that up, push every name under the sun at us, and drive the prices up on guys who he knew we actually wouldn't get (Chiarot, Manson, etc.).

I mean we are talking about scratching both Liljegren and Holl (while putting Sandin on his off side) to add a guy like Lindholm or Giordano into our lineup? Do we really think that is going to happen when Dubas has been clear that he is not paying a huge price for a rental? I think it is more likely he is driving prices up for Chychrun, Giordano, Middleton, and Lindholm. Teams like the Rangers, Canes, and Boston are all in the market for said defensemen... And once they blow their assets on them, we can swoop in for someone of the lower-tier guys for a more reasonable price.

Maybe he was interested at one point, but I bet that was before Lyubushkin. He may have also had genuine interest in Hagel, but he probably moved on fast if that was the price.

I’m just using that as an example, I also do think Foligno wasn’t the best target for us. We had trouble scoring goals in the past few playoffs and we go out and get a checker, who was having trouble scoring.

It sucks he got injured but I don’t think he was ever going to have that amazing impact we were hoping for anyways

As tough as it is I don't let what moves other teams make in the division dictate what I do if I'm Kyle.

This is with me expecting Boston to make a Lindholm sized splash as well. Focus on the Leafs and don't make a panic move cause others around you are paying premium prices. 2nd+ for Gio is fine. A depth add to change up the 4th line makeup is fine.

I don't need much more, we know the playoffs come down to the top guys + Campbell performing anyway.

This is pure copium but it makes sense. If youre hanging out on the forums all day waiting for a Leafs deal then it might be best to go outside instead and enjoy the weather haha!

Carolina is in there too.

Maybe, but it is also the type of thing that Dubas probably has analytics on.

He is looking at our chances with those guys vs. without, and our chances against each of those teams with those kinds of players added, and I don't think he sees a huge difference. Especially after seeing the last few years where a few bad breaks, missed saves, or unlucky bounces can be the difference between winning and losing in the playoffs... Even adding a big key addition will probably not improve your chances enough to warrant that kind of price.

However, driving up those prices, perhaps taking these teams out of the market not only this year, but subsequent years too (what is Florida/Tampa going to use to make trades next year?), is something that may not be optimal for his run this year, but will help him on later runs (like getting a guy with term) and won't really kill his team's chances this year all that much either.

I wonder if this means TB's going to use Cirelli as the line driving 3C now.

I can definitely see a backdoor play here. I still think for some reason we will land Bertuzzi
He can't even play against Canadian teams this past week because he's unvaccinated. That'd be some houdini maneuver to get him lol great player though and just what we need
