I think the problem is that if Hagel's finishing doesn't translate and he doesn't draw penalties (because we are the Leafs... It is a legitimate concern right now), is he really a guy who stands out? Solid player and PKer, but we have better PKer's and I don't think the rest moves the needle to the extent a 1st+ package should, even if he is cheap on the cap.

Also remember that he is not overly physical nor large. He likes going to tight areas to score, but he is not laying out hits or wearing teams down in that way.

So it sounds like its a 1st and a prospect and more.

I like Hagel but this sounds like a lot. Definitely would have given the 1st for him but I'm not sure how much more. I guess we'll see what the + are.
Its too much for sure.

But you know their 1st is like 27-30th
Prospect, why need prospect, they have their players locked in for a while. the key ones

Keep getting 3rd liners that support them.
It's been working for them

I hate Tampa

Main board has a new thread "Lindholm has been traded". Dominos staring to fall. Kyle hopefully waiting for everybody to blow their brains and buying whatever left overs he likes real cheap.

Definitely makes more sense for Tampa to make this move than the Leafs. Unfortuantely the Leafs aren't in a position to do this for this player. If they're giving up THAT much I would want someone like JT Miller at least.

Two 1sts and two players?

Tampa can afford it. Like Florida, they don't have many futures really (although their current top guys are better and signed longer than Florida's). Those 2 top picks in 2022/2023, Cal Foote, Nick Perbix, and a bunch of guys like Raddysh/Katchouk which should be enough to extend their window a little bit if they turn out to be good support players. They pretty much need to ride Stamkos/Hedman/Kucherov/Vasilevsky until they are no longer elite.

Multiple firsts is steep

Is it though?
23 years old scored 22 goals this year so far

That's good as any 1st rounder. The second 1st rounder is for having him ready

He looks like still has room to grow. I don't think it's steep. Any player they draft in 2022 will not be playing for another 4 years
He's already playing in NHL and a very good player at that

Probably a smart move by the Bolts. They don't have to care about their prospect pool for a while. May as well keep going all in while you are a recent cup winner.

Id like the Leafs to be (smart) buyers. Probably worth staying away from that price though
Must be nice to have the perspective of a recent cup winner. You can literally say "f*** it" to every single draft pick you own. You're a contender year in year out for the next 5 years even if you trade 10 picks a year.

He's definitely a good player. But I'd consider him a Kase/Bunting/Kampf tier of guy. A nice piece to have, but not one I'd sell the farm for (at least from the Leafs pov).

'Kid Kyle' did more or less make similar moves to Hagel in the summer wihout spending anything other than money.

I would love to add Hagel if the cost was a 1st but 2 1sts is way to rich for me.

I guess it's also possible Chicago may be retaining 50% for each of the net three years which would increase the price. We shall see.

I don't even know who Hagel is to be honest. Name rhymes with Bagel is all I can really tell you. Now that he's in the Atlantic I guess we'll get to see with our own eyes if he's worth it or not.

Most likely seeing him as an opponent in first round though so I'll say he's a scrub and wouldn't even make our ECHL team. Next.
