Issue is that management has to be able to identify a Binnington or Murray and give them the reigns at precisely the right moment. If you pick up Fleury (or whomever) and it's more of the same, who do you start in the playoffs? There would then be a ⅓ chance that they start the right goalie. And if they can't identify who the right goalie is in the first place, I don't have much faith that they'd make the right call.
Our playoff hopes are basically going to come down to dumb luck and that's not a position that we should be buying in.

My frustration with the state of the current team echos some of your points. You often hear “Kyle is betting on…x, y, z” and often feels like the Leafs strategy comes down to some Hail Mary Moneyball gambit.
I feel like the Shanaplan was promising first class construction all the way but it’s sort of deflated into an all world top line duct taped to a Wild Card roster in recent weeks. Everything just feels… cheap.
