Crouse price tag will be way too high now. Should have bought at beginning of year when price was low and looked like an average player with size and physicality.

I know there's been talk of doing nothing at the trade deadline, but I'm not sure I agree with this. The potential psychological implications on the psyche of the players from another 1st round exit is not worth standing still. It also may give Dubas and co. another excuse to stay for another year ("this wasn't our year"). I'd rather they go for it.

Nick Deslauries, Michael McLeod, Carson Soucy, Jacob Middleton, Mark Giordano, Andrew Copp, I like these names and I think if Dubas managed to shuffle the lineup a little and add a couple of these guys it would certainly change the identity of the team in all of the right ways.

2 lines that don't work, a huge goaltending problem, holes on D..... not sure they can trade their way outta this one.

In no way should Dubas try to trade his way out of this. Sure a smart tweak or two, then get ready for the playoffs. At the end of the day the way we win is if Matty wills it. Everybody else will follow.

I think we could use Manson, but you could also probably get that player type and pay a No Name price as well.

All comes down to how much the Leafs decide they should be going all in this year. With holes leaking everywhere do you just do a modest patch job?
Ideally the next ‘no name’ guy is what you want, they’re hard to find though, maybe they’ve somewhat found that in Lyubushkin? A forward I’d love for them to go after is Texier, not a defenseman but a strong two-way player.
I'm still thinking Soucy fits, decent hitter shoots left but can play right, fairly mobile and decently cheap. Can play shutdown with Muzz. If Muzz isn't going then move him over to the left and pair him Holl or Boosh. It's cheap and decent 🤔
What I worry about with Soucy is that he doesn’t really have high usage experience, not even on a team like Seattle (is he some diamond in the rough?). Seems like a lateral move that comes with a 2.75m cap hit while Holl is 2m with the same term; I’d consider Holl the superior player of the two.

Sell sell sell

This isn’t a buy year

This is the worst this team has been since 2016

Why the f*** would we waste assets?

Do we want to get another Foligno and throw a first away?

What about anothe Muzzin? Campbell? First and solid prospect that is making a really nice contribution in the NHL right now

This team just throws away talent in hopes of patching holes. Instead of actually building on the young assets we bave

Stop doing it. Just stop trying to patch over this absolutely fragile team and build something meaningful

Leafs very well can set a record for most points in a season all time.

Fully agree with what you are saying. Although I haven't seen anything suggesting Varlamov doesn't want to come here, or even that Fleury has rejected us. Obviously, nothing to the contrary either (i.e. that they do want to come here).

Apparently Varlamov has all of the Canadian teams on his NTC.

At $5m, he'd also be a goalie that you have to commit to as the #1 next year, which is something that I'm not so certain the Leafs are comfortable doing.

Everything we've seen from the talking heads on Fleury is that Toronto would not be where he wants to go.

His price tag was unfortunately never low. This place incorrectly evaluated him. He was always going to be expensive and for good reason.

Fleury sounds like he’s winding down and ready to retire at seasons end so maybe he doesn’t want to go to a rocky situation in Toronto and have potentially the most stressful 3 months of his career to end things.

Massive exaggeration for a team that mostly needs average goaltending to be considered one of the best teams in the league. Better than average goaltending? Probably at the very top of the league.

A healthy and effective Muzzin would go a long way too. But the Leafs have been top 10 (if not top 5) across the board in any ES or PK defensive metric except ES save percentage since January 1st, and that is with Muzzin being either injured or the weakest link. Of course, every offensive metric too, and that is with Nylander and Tavares being inconsistent.

Other than that, maybe an upgrade on Wayne Simmonds for the 4th line? Hardly something that will break us, but allowing Simmonds to be an extra off the bench in the playoffs may be a better idea than playing him every game. Would be good to have Spezza and Simmonds trade off so they are fresh and energetic every time they hit the ice.

Even by the eye test we are clearly a team that is mostly getting held back by goaltending right now.

I don't think this team needs to do very much or spend big assets at the TDL. Especially not on rentals. But this is a team that can beat anyone in the playoffs. They just need what every Cup winning team has: Their stars performing, their depth guys consistently and effectively doing their jobs as they have been the entire season, and a goalie who can keep them in games (and maybe even steal a few). The first one has been iffy at times to this point, and the last one has not happened enough to even win a round... But if our core guys and our goalie can't do it (again), then we have seen that it does not really matter what happens otherwise.
It honestly blows my mind that you think the only significant hole on this team is a goalie.

It's not going to happen for 2 reasons. For one, like you said, he seems contempt to ride out the season. Toronto just doesn't seem like a place he wants to play for.

The 2nd thing, the rumoured price the Hawks want is absurd and stupid. They got him for free, promised him cup contention and they were the bipolar opposite. I understand they want value and they are trying to capitalize, but this reeks of desperation. There isn't a contending team that will pay it.

If he was on the Titanic I bet he thinks he survives from the moment they hit the iceberg to the moment he took his last breath before drowning.

Even if it's wrong you simply cannot look beyond it right now.

Exactly. The flaws in goaltending are so bad, that it's making everything else look worse right now. With average goaltending, we are neck and neck with Florida in points, and in line to take the division, maybe just a few points off the President's trophy. All teams could use improving, even President's Trophy leader, Colorado just made a move to improve their D. Those who know the team the most, see the flaws the most. Yes, we could improve, but things aren't as bad as they seem right now.

Totally guessing, but they may make a few moves by the deadline. Doubt they will be blockbusters. Just a few names being thrown out here. Maybe something like

Zack MacEwen type to replace Simmonds. I know they are devoted to Simmonds and everything but he looks done. MacEwen is younger with lots of energy, fast enough to actually connect on a body check not just make a loud bang on the boards and isn't bad with the puck on his stick.

Backup goalie swap. Maybe something around Mrazek and Halak? Change of scenery may do wonders for both. Probably have to attach a pick to cover salary differences. Halak has only had 1 season below .900 besides this one. And most nights .900 would be a win for the Leafs.

I think they're going to go after Chiarot. I really don't mind him but he's nowhere near worth the current asking price and if Muzzin gets back to somewhat normal I don't see him as much of an upgrade, if any at all, on what we have.

If they decide to go the blockbuster way I'm thinking Lindholm and Crouse.
I think they tried to sign MacEwen in the past when he was a UFA coming out of the QMJHL too.

How likely does that seem at this point in time? No Matthews for the next two games and Boston right on our heels. It’s more likely we fall to a wild card position than anything else

How do we feel about Manson's price tag? High/low/fair?
Would the Leaf equivalent be Robertson + 2nd?
I think it was pretty fair value for Manson. Not an overpay. Not an underpay.

If Helleson were a Leafs prospect I would have him right after Robertson, Knies, Niemela, Amirov. He's probably in the Hirvonen/Abruzzese range. A solid prospect but not a blue chipper.

Yeah I don’t know why he’d want to take this challenge on with how much attention the situation is getting. Any goaltender who the Leafs acquire will be under an unbelievable amount of scrutiny and expected to propel this messy team to immediate victories.

I sense we will trade for a D first, then a F. Dubas has to see that we do not have the depth to score in tighter checked games.

I think they go with a 3rd stringer type who could step in if this tire fire continues
