Good points made by Siegel. Basically the Leafs need to figure out if they can find a forward for the 2nd line, or a combination that works through the lineup.

Tavares and Nylander need to be better for sure but Keefe and Dubas need to find ways to improve it. Kerfoot did well for awhile but seems like it's not working right now. They can't go cold in scoring going into the playoffs again and right now, the Leafs are showing similar scoring issues outside of the top line. You can't be a one line team. This is why players like Kase, Robertson, etc might get stints and bigger opportunities. Siegel puts it at 60/40 toward the Leafs acquiring a defenseman versus a forward but seems like it could go either way.

The arguments of acquiring a forward or a defenseman with deadline approaching should be fascinating.

Should the Maple Leafs prioritize a top-six forward — instead of a defenceman — at the trade deadline?

IMO the answer is YES either way. Don't think we have anyone internally capable of slotting 2LW and providing a 'boost' to that line.

Friedman on 32 Thoughts about the Leafs and JT Miller: "I think they had a conversation with Vancouver about it, I dont think thats so likely"

If you need to add a player to get JT and Nylander going your f***ed. They as a pair make almost 20 million and get 2nd line matchups. They should be destroying their competition regardless of who the third guy is. Unfortunately the big elephant in the room is JT will soon be making too much money for his contributions, if he isn't already.

This guy gets it. :handclap:
How does he get it exactly? Arizona laughs in our face if we tell them we want Jakob but not willing to part with one of Sandin or Lil, who both have inferior skillsets to Jakob overall.

Put it this way, if people enjoy how Sandin looks on the Leafs, just wait until you can see what Jakob can do on a competitive team with skill.

It's not really about getting them going but adding a good player that will give the Leafs another threat upfront.

What's your playoff lineup, that wins it all?

Sandin + Engvall + Knies + 2nd (or Lesser prospect + 1st)
For
Chychrun + Crouse

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Crouse - Tavares - Nylander
Mikhayev - Kerfoot - Robertson
Spezza - Kampf - Kase
Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Chychrun - Lybushkin
Muzzin - Liljgren
Dermott

Maybe read my follow up comment regarding Chychrun and you would see I actually have Sandin in the deal. Maybe read the posts before commenting.

Leafs need checkers and strong net front guys, not Chychrun and JT Miller come on.. What the hell does Chychrun add to a team with Rielly and Sandin?

They don't need more skill. They're one of the best skill teams in the league, and have the best skilled 4th liner in the league in Spezza.. Doesn't mean anything without net crashers to break through defenses in the playoffs. Nick Ritchie was a big miss, but I think a worthwhile attempt. Leafs should try and get Braun and Laughton out of Philly or Wood, Crouse.. Whatever it takes to mimic Tampa adding Coleman and Goodrow.

I'd like to add from the "secondary tier" of available defensemen, Giordano, Braun, Schenn, Chara? that are older and won't cost as much as Klingberg, Chychrun, etc.

Justin Holl + Topi Niemela + Roni Hirvonen + 2022 1st rd. pick (top-10 protected) for JT Miller (50% retained) + Luke Schenn

I want JT to play with JT, but we should try to spare Liljegren by sacrificing Niemela++. Follow a similar model to the Muzzin trade with Durzi++ over Liljegren+.

I dint know if I'd call it a decline, because they were not full seasons last couple years. He also had a very good playoffs one year for avalanche. I always thought he had more potential but Babs didn't seem to ever want to give him a chance regularly with the top 6.
He also got suspended in the playoff, again.

I get that but with the amount of cap tied up in the top 6 (~50% of cap) there shouldn't be any additional firepower needed for those lines.

I was just about to post that nobody has mentioned Chara. He's freaking old (44 yikes) but still has some game I think?

Wow okay so looking pretty confident he is out for the season and the leafs can therefore make big adds. Interesting but worrisome in that they can only really add high priced rentals not longer term pieces
They can easily add a long term piece and cross that bridge in the summer. Lots of potential moving parts to move cap around. Kerfoot, mrazek, Holl, dermott are all guys who can be shuffled out to fit other players rather easily.
