That's removing a good chunk of quality and depth without replacing it. I don't think they will do that on defense.
Hutton is a downgrade on Dermott but if we're playing Holl over Dermott anyways it's irrelevant.

Pysyk/Hutton in with Holl/Dermott out gives you almost $2M off the cap.

If you need the space for other additions you could do much worse.

Got it, didn't make the connection.
I can’t imagine there are many circumstances which would make him waving his contractual rights desirable…Besides, I think he is an excellent mentor for Timmy, so I don’t entertain the thought much.

Yep, seems a little silly to think he's going anywhere.

I keep circling back to Hagel.
The age, contract, profile. He can hang with the second line now, and is a good bridge while other young players develop up the lineup.
next year, maybe you split up Willy and Johnny T. A player like him enables that.
I’m not sure if *he’s* that guy, and I don’t really get why he’d be available if Chicago is rebuilding, and not sure I like the cost. But the profile and contract are great fits

can i know why everyone is so high on this player ? aren't we done trying to spending first rounders on non impact middle 6 forwards ?

Goaltending is our biggest concern and needs to be the priority in terms of any moves we make. If we can do more afterwards, even better, but you simply cannot roll the dice on the hope of Jack re-finding his Oct/Nov form when he’s been faltering for this long. 3 months is not just a slump, it’s a regression back to earth. This experiment is over imo. Get rid of Mrazek now and make a bold move for some real stability in net. Love Soup, but we should ride out the remainder of this season and let him go. We can’t gamble our entire season on this.

What goaltender is available and really upgrades our situation? There’s MAF who’s only a temporary solution potentially for this playoff run.

That's certainly a very large concern and not one easily fixed.

I know this will probably be met with resistance, but would anyone but me consider Giordano (pending UFA) for Muzzin straight up?

Opens up a ton of cap space next 2 seasons - and with the apparent evolution of Muzzin from excellent to merely good......you get to preemptively circumvent the obvious next steps in Muzzin's evolution.

100% would do this. No downgrade in play and you get out of remaining years on Muzzin contract. Not sure why Seattle does it. I’d add a sweetener if it was remotely possible

yeah, I don’t know tbh. It’s a complicated issue. My goal would be to try to convince Anaheim, if they stay outside the playoffs, to part with Gibson, but that’s a pipe dream I know. I think MAF is a realistic option for the moment, if we can move Mrazek, but yeah likely only solves this 1 playoff run and then we are back to the drawing board. That’s likely anyway though, I can’t see paying Jack any sizeable amount of money or term

My thought process is that Seattle gets a solid vet cheaper than Gio and signed 2 years longer. They aren't competing in that time frame anyway. From the places I have posted this, it seems like 50/50 on who would have to add. I would make the deal bigger if need be.

Isn't the concern with Soup going into the season the reason Dubas signed Mrazek for 3x3.8m ?? Too late to change horses now IMO.

Gibson would be real nice but like you said a pipe dream. Another name I wouldn’t mind at all would be Sorokin.

es the Ducks into seller mode, which we could take advantage of.

IMO there's no fix - we're going with Campbell and Mrazek this year and they will evaluate in the offseason.

Id think a sweetener would have to be added from Toronto. Would Robertson be enough to make Seattle take on the extra years?

That's waaaay too much. Muzzin is owed about $8.4 million in real dollars over the rest of his contract, while Gio has just under $3 million left on his for this season.

TBH, I think Seattle would have to add unless they retained. It's not like Gio is a Norris caliber D anymore at 38, while Muzzin only turned 33 today. 5 years younger, and is still a good Dman.

The main benefit is the known chemistry with Brodie and the fact he is UFA.
