I still can’t make heads or tails of the D.

are we really going to keep.

rielly. Brodie
Muzz. Lub
Sandin. Holl
derm. Lilly

not sure that’s good enough really? But if we add another d and push down lub

Holl?

Holl isNt a 7 d. Maybe trade hun and the 1st for a d?

Forsberg from Nashville at max retention. Likely need to get a second team involved and send salary back (Dermott and Engvall).

this is the type of move that will move the needle in a series against Tampa.

Forsberg can play second line with Nylander and then move Tavares to third line duties.

I agree with this, but there’s not a lot of options out there. Justin Braun maybe? I talked about adding him last year

Forsberg is a winger. I'd be more tempted to go for the big centre in Hertl.

Ideally we could go cheaper on D, not lose too much and use the cap space to upgrade the forward group.

Move Dermott and Holl, acquire a guy like Pysyk, maybe grab Hutton again for Hutch/other Marlie vet once he passes through waivers and then let the kids fly. If they falter you have options that aren't really that much worse than what Holl has provided this year.

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljegren
Sandin-Lyubushkin/Pysyk
Hutton
Kral

Pysyk can also play RW if we need a body up front.

It's putting a lot of faith in the kids, but if this team is going to be a perrenial contender, these two need to develop into top 4 defensemen. They have a veteran group to support them, and they've done well so far this year.

I know this will probably be met with resistance, but would anyone but me consider Giordano (pending UFA) for Muzzin straight up?

Opens up a ton of cap space next 2 seasons - and with the apparent evolution of Muzzin from excellent to merely good......you get to preemptively circumvent the obvious next steps in Muzzin's evolution.

I'd wait to see how the D is with Lyub first. IMO you can't go for a big forward if you go with two rookies on D. In that case, I'd rather sit back and let it ride with what we have and keep our top picks and prospects.

That's removing a good chunk of quality and depth without replacing it. I don't think they will do that on defense.

If moving Muzzin is an option, I'd rather move him and whatever else is needed to Zona for Chychrun. Seems Zona might be interested in Muzzin's cap hit and probably don't care if he keeps declining.

Muzzin is NMC or NTC?
I can't see Arizona being somewhere he is interested in going to,

My thinking was Gio for this season when we need a known commodity who will fit in like a glove, and then in the offseason we could revisit that as the Leafs will have all of Muzzin's cap room available. Maybe get Gio to extend for one more season for Dermott/Holl money.

Yeah that is why I said if it was an option. Zona is beautiful and is a great place to retire to.
I doubt he's looking to retire.

** could have sworn I already replied to this but my post is gone, weird
