Cal Petersen contract is the market comparable imo.
Petersen at 5 million is pretty awful. That contract is also another example of not overpaying a player off very limited action. His 90% save percentage doesn’t scream 5 million to me.

I'm not saying it's a good contract but it's a strong and reasonable comparable for his agent to use. Jack may be the nicest human on earth but his agent is not.

Leafs - Canadiens
Josh Anderson & Ben Chiarot (50% ret)
for
Nick Robertson, Alex Kerfoot, Nick Ritchie & 1st

Marner - Matthews - Anderson
Bunting - Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - - Kampf - - Kase
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds
Clifford

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Chiarot
Sandin - Holl
Yes lets take a terrible contract and an overrated d man for a top prospect and a 1st. Do people even pay attention to the players they make propsals for?

A player needs an actual injury to go on LTIR and no you do not just sit out a PPG center when you're fighting for 1st in the division.

They did it to Lupul and they can certainly do it again.

Would you rather come in 2nd and have home ice or come in 3rd and have 2 extra top end players going into the playoffs? Keep in mind these additions will also help for the push in the standing

First of all, you can't just LTIR a player in the same way you can order your double double from Timmies.

Second of all, Tavares has 43 points in 43 games and 5 points in his last 5 games.

If they wanted to they absolutely could.

Second, good for him he's getting points, but he's not critical for us making the playoffs and we'd be better off with him AND players to fill the holes in the lineup when the real games start

Anyways obviously it'll never happen but you're crazy if you think it's not the best move

You know, I would have thought that was true, but in back to back seasons when a team is well over the cap hit, magically Kuch is hurt for the rest of the season and now this season, Mark Stone is hurt till the end of the season when they are on the cusp of getting Eichel back.

Seems awfully shady, can't see why the Leaf's don't say Tavares is having headaches or he's allergic to his equipment like Hossa was.

You could even pull the same nonsense insiders and other people from the media were saying "Do you really think Tampa want's to be without Kuch for the season?" But instead we can say "Do you really think we want to be without our Captain and second line C for the rest of the season" lol, it's just awfully weird teams are able to hide their cap issues behind LTIR

Seems like it should just be that you need to have the guy off of LTIR by the TDL for them to eligible for playoffs. Or have a cap in the playoffs... That would cut that crap out right at the start.

And then if a team is really that screwed with injuries, that is what emergency call ups are for.

Is there any 20 goal, 50 point wingers with size for under 3.5 million? I'm thinking a Coleman type but someone who doesn't cost as much so we can replace Simmonds. Simmonds is a clear weak link for me but we need at least one of Ritchie or Simmonds in the lineup IMO. We can acquire him with the Kase+Ritchie money.

Also I think Robertson and Anderson could both feature nicely at some point. Here's my dream lineup.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robbie-Tavares-Nylander
Coleman-Kerfoot-Anderson
Engvall-Kampf-Mikheyev
Spezza.

Someone like Coleman, not him specifically.

Maybe Boone Jenner for Ritchie and a 1st

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robbie-Tavares-Nylander
Jenner-Kerfoot-Anderson
Engvall-Kampf-Mikheyev
Spezza.

I'd do Ritchie + 1st for Jenner personally. He'd give the top 9 more jam.. but I think the resource is better spent on a D

A 1st for Boone Jenner? no thanks.

It is far from a first for Jenner.

Bourne was asking what pick would be enough for Zona to take Ritchie. He settled on a 2nd after dismissing a first. So if the sweetener to move Ritchie is a between a 2nd and a 4th, I'd say Ritchie + 1st for Jenner is not as bad as it looks.

I'd prefer they played Ritchie and didn't trade him. He's going to be traded, walk onto another team and pump 35 points out on the 3rd line while leading his team in hits.

Paying a team to take on a top-9 player under a small, cheap contract. High to mid picks even makes me feel like my heads going to explode.

All of this mess is transpiring because Keefe likes Pierre Engvall. An utterly useless vanilla player.

He was resigned to 4 years deal this past July. Columbus isn't trading him as he's also their captain

No it’s because Ritchie’s been fairly useless despite the hits.

Jenner's their captain whose contract extension hasn't even kicked in yet. He could've tested the UFA waters this off-season but chose to stay on a not so good team. Something tells me it's probably closer to family reasons than sporting as to why he re-signed. Without looking, I'm sure there's a NTC in there too.

Jenner's not going anywhere barring some ridiculous over payment.

I wouldn’t pay anyone to take Ritchie.

There’s plenty of fringe playoff teams he’d make a nice addition to, who don’t care about a 2.5M cap hit next season. And one of those teams will miss out on other targets as we approach the deadline.

It’ll be like a Matt Martin deal. An AHLer on an NHL contract. teams tend to prefer doing that type of deal over claiming on waivers

He was putting up about a .5 PPG the last 15 or so games. It took him awhile to get going with a new team. He played his way out of it. Now, he's with the Marlies.

I find it bizarre, how people are so quick to right Ritchie off. Pay picks to get rid of him. But, are wanting to throw 1st rounders at Lawson Crouse or Josh Anderson. The Leafs have their own version of that and he's cheap, they just don't have room for that type of player under this leadership group.

Engvall has completely outplayed Ritchie. It's not even up for debate. How about we evaluate players fairly and not because one guy hits? One guy was in the dog house of Keefe and played himself into his good books. The other was given a huge opportunity and with his play kept getting his role lessened and now out of the lineup. It has nothing to with leadership group. This is the same group that added Bogosian, gave Simmonds a questionable 2 year deal, and paid a first for Foligno. Ritchie can only blame himself for why he is with the Marlies.

Why does this place insist Crouse is a Ritchie clone?

We don't want him because his price is who they envision him to become on a good team (consistent 20 goal power forward) and not what he is today (2nd/3rd liner) i.e way too high.

But to say we don't want him because he's equivalent to Ritchie is a joke. We would be lucky to add an asset like Crouse for the playoff run.
