Risto is probably the dumbest non-bottom pair defenseman in the league. He has an elite toolbox but a room temperature IQ, he will get abused by a linematching opponent in the playoffs.

Yeah, hard to say if a player is good or not when they come from Buffalo, that team has been a tire fire for the past 10 years. The whole ROR situation was proof of that, guy looked average on Buffalo and went to St. Louis and become a stud.

I dunno how Rasmus has looked on Philly though.
Hes been bad with Philly as well.

@WTFMAN99

Holl isn't great but he's a damn sight better than Pysyk

That not even close imo

We disagree, it`s all good :)

Odds of acquiring Pysyk are probably low as I imagine they want to aim a bit higher. Braun would be a higher priority for me.

Can Rasmus Ristolainen play hockey any good anymore, would he be a upgrade on Holl playing beside Muzzin?

6.4ft, on an expiring contract at the end of the year, cap hit right now is 5.4m so would be a 2.7m cap hit if Philly retained. Don't think it would cost an arm and a leg like other d-man out there.

Ristolainen is quite possibly the dumbest defenseman I have ever watched, he doesn`t have a clue.

You will need to explain me how an awful dmen defensive side of the puck should be an upgrade over a dman who played top matchup game after game on one of the best defensive team season.

Its the same with klindberg or chychrun

Wrong on ROR, and he's looked bad on Philly.

Philly just paid a 1st 2nd and hagg. Not interested in helping them recoup that sunken cost. Not to mention he’s awful

I think he already had something to do with a concussion long before that hit and that just put him over the edge. He just seemed unfocused all year. Maybe it had something to do with Covid, but a guy like him doesn't just suddenly forget how to play hockey in a few months.

Physically, he looks fine. Mentally, he is a major problem.

Hopefully we can properly treat him this time and he can come back better. Meanwhile, this is a great opportunity for Dermott and Sandin to finally showcase themselves in a serious role.
There is no way he's had lingering concussion symptoms and been cleared to play. This concussion was clear head contact with the boards and he was immediately visibly shook up from it.

He's shown a physical decline too not just mental. His puck handling, pivots and first step are all worse than the start of last year. His overall movement is a lot more laboured but the decline has been slowly happening since last season.

I'd also argue that a guy like Muzzin does "just suddenly" fall off a cliff with his mileage, play-style and lack of elite tools.

if we put Muzzin on the LTIR for the rest of the year cant we then replace his cap hit wiht another player in trade.
Tampa did that with Kucherov so whycant we.

If Muzzin is legitimately injured and would satisfy the requirements to be put on LTIR, then yes we could do that. You can’t just make up a reason though.

I wonder if we could get Luke Schenn from the Canucks to fill that Bogosian role.

Yeah I would look for Provorov in return and not Ristolainen. That guy is like the Finnish Cody Franson.

Unfortunate we're most likely going to lose Mikheyev just as he starts popping off. Other teams out there can offer more money, would love to find a way to keep him, useful player. 3 year deal would be ideal.

It’s a perfect sell high scenario. They have enough depth upfront. Use the return to help bring in an upgrade on D.

Can't keep everyone under the cap. Mikheyev is a good player but if he wants to get max money, he'll get it somewhere else. Not sure he's really earned a big contract either but he's been hot lately so we'll see. I think the Leafs would go up to 3M on a 3-4 year contract but even that seems hard to fit or pushing it. His injuries and lack of production is really glaring.

This is why Robertson, Amirov, etc are going to be important in the next year or two.

Only upgrade necessary is a top 4 D. Mikheyev on an expiring contract isn't going to help us fetch that.
