Should the Leafs try to sign Kadri this off-season?

Why would they move mrazek when they’re going to need two capable goalies down the stretch? They’ve been lucky to ride Campbell as much as they so far without an issue. Off-season is entirely different.
Ritchie would make sense to go back in any deal where salary ballast needs to be included, I see that happening.

Mainly the point above, however, there's also the aspect of trading a player you just signed without giving him a chance to prove himself would send a bad message to prospective FA's.

To me, Holl and Richie would be my prime targets for trading in order to free up cap space. Maybe Kerfoot, but I think he's more of a off season move. He's proved to be a very good, albeit relatively expensive, utility forward.

We're going to need 2 goalies this season and playoffs. Trading Petr is not an option. We can't play Woll/Hutch for 25+ games and heaven forbid a playoff start for either

I think the main target now has to be a depth defenseman. With how poorly Muzzy played the last few games and now losing him to a concussion, we certainly can't roll a bottom4 of Biega, Dermott, Holl, Sandin and Lilly into the playoffs. I have a lot of confidence in Lilly and Sandin but the others, not so much.

I like Dermott+ for a 50% retained Soucy. + shouldn't be too much, Soucy has the same ability to play both sides, but is better Muzzin insurance with the physicality, in-zone defense and pk ability.

Yep. We basically need to acquire a healthy Jake Muzzin again.

I wonder what the cost would be to move Ritchie.
If you're patient I don't think you would have to attach anything to Ritchie to move him. His contract isn't really that expensive, even in a 4th line role where he gets you 20 points. It's only 2.5M and there is one extra season. He's in his mid-20's. At the deadline with less money owed on his deal there may be a team willing to pay the Leafs for his services, not the other way around. In the off-season, with UFA's going for overpriced contracts and other contracts coming off the books for other teams, they should be able to offload that contract.

There is only a problem with having to pay someone to take him if you need him gone by a certain time. Before next season gives them some time. To move him out tomorrow it would probably cost you a pick or you're taking back salary.

I think he already had something to do with a concussion long before that hit and that just put him over the edge. He just seemed unfocused all year. Maybe it had something to do with Covid, but a guy like him doesn't just suddenly forget how to play hockey in a few months.

Physically, he looks fine. Mentally, he is a major problem.

Hopefully we can properly treat him this time and he can come back better. Meanwhile, this is a great opportunity for Dermott and Sandin to finally showcase themselves in a serious role.

Pretty sure the Friedman comment relates to Ritchie and/or Holl. Logically it depends what they're targeting. If it's a D man - safe to assume one of Dermott/Holl are going to be shipped out in that or another deal.

If they can move Ritchie I think they do it regardless.

Don't think they're moving Mrazek unless a team like Edmonton comes desperate.

Trading Holl does not really free up cap space unless you are also willing to seriously downgrade roster quality. Outside of a guy like Scott Mayfield, who makes 500k less, most guys who make less than him (who are not on ELC's and are almost certainly not available for trade) are much worse than him too.

I said it in the last thread: His comment means absolutely nothing that people did not already know. It's logic, not a rumour.

Not worth it; but if performs in the playoffs it may be easier. He's owed more next year......eeesh
I think if you look at pretty much every contract signed since Covid you’ll see lower payout in these recovery years. Pretty much every new deal is middle loaded so guys avoid escrow.

Can Rasmus Ristolainen play hockey any good anymore, would he be a upgrade on Holl playing beside Muzzin?

6.4ft, on an expiring contract at the end of the year, cap hit right now is 5.4m so would be a 2.7m cap hit if Philly retained. Don't think it would cost an arm and a leg like other d-man out there.

No. He never was very good. Outside of some pretty good checks, and as a PP specialist.

Yeah, hard to say if a player is good or not when they come from Buffalo, that team has been a tire fire for the past 10 years. The whole ROR situation was proof of that, guy looked average on Buffalo and went to St. Louis and become a stud.

I dunno how Rasmus has looked on Philly though.
