Would you guys trade Liljergren in a package if it meant getting Mayfield??
Also, Ottawa isn't trading Zub.
Why are we trading the better, younger player?

Everything Ottawa does is motivated by saving money, Zub’s AAV is 2.5 but real cash he makes 1.75 this year and 3.25 next year. They would move him if they see a deal they like.
In an ideal world, the Maple Leafs would add a top-four right-handed defenseman who excels on the defensive side of the puck, but beggars can't be choosers, and Klingberg is by far the best righty that's knowingly available.
"
Pretty sure that's a dig at Holl and not the Leafs as a whole.Yeah the elite Leafs with their top-end deep dcorps are in the Choosers category, not the Beggars category.
This sums up klingberg perfectly: 5 trade destinations for John Klingberg
"
Toronto's second pairing has been an issue all season. Jake Muzzin appears to have lost a step and can no longer carry Justin Holl, who's been a healthy scratch at times.

The fit could still work, though. The Maple Leafs prioritize skill and puck possession more than any other team in the league, areas where Klingberg shines. Playing in a system that encourages offensive creativity could help get the most out of the Swede. At times, it's appeared as though he's been shackled playing under Dallas' tight defensive scheme.
The Leafs rank fifth in the league in points percentage and the front office is facing immense pressure to win at least one playoff round, so don't be surprised if they're willing to push all their chips into the middle this season.

Yeah they agree with you: In an ideal world, the Maple Leafs would add a top-four right-handed defenseman who excels on the defensive side of the puckIn playoff what it really matter its not how long you keep the puck, its how many time you get the puck back. Klingberg yes will you more possession time but its not what leafs need because he will not get the puck back in your side.
Thats why my main targer is josh Manson. Big physical dmen who will give you the puck back on your side
Pretty sure that's a dig at Holl and not the Leafs as a whole.
Leafs have 7 good dmen. They're choosers, not beggars.

I'm on board with this given Anaheim actually wants to trade him. I think Holl would be perfect with a reduced role on the third pairing although I'd prefer to go all in Liljegren moving forward.Manson is a top 4 dman who excel defensive side of the puck
Rielly-Manson
Muzzin-brodie
Sandin-holl

Zub (likely not gonna get dealt), Mayfield (likely not gonna get dealt) and Braun (not an upgrade on Holl) are the only interesting ones there.
If Chiarot's price lowers to say, Dermott and a 2nd, I'd love to have him as a rental.
Muzzin will decide what we need. If he doesnt return to fan favorite form, I predict a trade for a significant name. Significant as in it won't be up for debate if this new guy is better than Holl. It will just be a fact that he is.Just add Braun and a depth center who can step in to a bottom six role and you're fine.
Liljegren plays over Holl
Why are we trading the better, younger player?
Honestly, Holl's decline taken into account, this is partially why I'd rather just pick up an extra D then flip Holl or someone out and exchange a new D. It wouldn't hurt to keep a guy in case of injuries or whatever that, while not great, can at least play some calm hockey as a backup optionLiljegren will be better than holl for sure and he more balanced but in playoff, i keep holl over liljegren
1-under pressure, he stay really calm.
2- he get a better positionning, thats the reason why he still better defensive side of the puck.
3- he will not try to do too much and play safely, not sure about liljegren
4- on left side its sandin, an offensive minded dman who will take some risk. So get a guy with a stay at home dman attittude with sandin for me is a better fit during playoff to minimize kind of error like he did game #1 against montreal.

No. I'd be looking to flip Holl to them, with a couple picks / prospects to bridge the gap. Definitely interested in Mayfield, but not for any deal that involves Liljegren.
