They need Josh Manson of like 5 years ago basicallyMentioned this in the earlier thread, but a negative on the "should the Leafs get Chychrun" is he isn't needed for the 1st PP Unit (they're not kicking Rielly off after giving him that huge extension). Which is going to limit to an extent his impact as an offensive centric D man.
The Leafs just need another Brodie. A safe minute munching guy.

Trouba FA for 1st + Pionk
McDonagh 1 1/2 yrs left on his deal+ Miller - very good player
for
Namestikov + Howden + Hajek+ 1st (2018)+ 2nd (2019)
Going of the McDonagh deal
Sandin + Amirov + Ritchie + 1st (2022) + 2nd (2023)
Just play Liljegren in Holls spot and let him develop into that guy. Flip Dermott and Holl in and out of that 6D spot but we're wasting valuable development opportunity by not playing Liljegren with Muzzin at 5 on 5 as often as possible. They need Josh Manson of like 5 years ago basically
Isn't he a more physical, bigger Brodie ??
An unyielding two-way defenceman, Jakob Chychrun is a rising star with a toolbox bursting at the seams. Consistently displays elite four-way skating ability and is not afraid to throw his weight around physically. Plays with poise and composure through high pressure situations and, with the puck on his stick, can direct the play up-ice. Exhibits a particularly potent shot that works its magic on the power play and on the forecheck. Excellent first pass and uses his vision and awareness to keep the puck moving in the direction of the opposition's tail or to a teammate with more time and space. Defensively adept at tracking the puck and staying a step ahead of the opposition. Proactive with his stick and body, exerting pressure on the opposition and forcing them to make hurried decisions.
All-in-all, a well-rounded two-way defender who competes with pro-level drive and makes his authoritative presence felt at both ends of the ice.
Even so, I can't see Leafs being the winner of any Chychrun sweepstakes. A more desperate team like the Oilers will pay more than the Leafs would be willing to pay.

so who?
Good not great NHL. Sandin.
good not great prospect. Amirov?
first.
Personally I think Brodie is better in his own end
I just think you really overated chychrun. No body with d playing more than 18 minute at even strenght who got a worst 5on5 impact this season
He was on the ice only on 10 of the 48 for the who should be the QB of this team. Hes in top 5 in most 5v5 goal against
Thats worst offensivly and defensivly than chiarot, savard, larsson.
I think you already considerate him as an elite d but for me he will never be an elite d or real #1 in NHL. Right now he would be at best d #4 if leafs trade for him behind rielly muzzin and brodie.
Yeah I'm not sure Sandin would be on our radar if he was in Coyotes system, so anyone using Coyotes to bring Chychrun down, goes in one ear and out the other for me. The only complaint should be price if it becomes too high or the injury history. I don't see the injuries being an issue since he will be much more sheltered here by both our defence and back checking forwards. He is playing for a pathetic team. Probably much better paired with a Muzzin or Brodie. Might be our 4th best dman today but could be better than most in the future. All depends on how the Leafs brass view him and the cost. I don't see it happening though.

Why don't leaf fans understand how well Sandin is playing for his age and draft class?
