Ritchie - Spezza - Simmonds
Clifford
Rielly - Brodie

I get Matthews is from Arizona but common, that organization is a complete disaster and honestly I’m not even worried about Matthews even wanting to go there. He’s got his off-season house there to visit which is more than enough. So the league expects the debt to. Be paid off by the end of the 23-24 season. Right at the time Matty is expected to be a ufa.
Not sure how that works for us….. does he wait to see what the cap is going to be? Before signing….
I think I would. I mean. If the cap is expected to jump up 5 million…. Do they go for it? I really don’t know. That is like the worst possible timing.
I can’t see the leafs wanting to risk letting him potentially walk in ufa. That would be a disaster. But why would you sign here on an 85 ish cap?

I actually think the cap going up significantly in the 24-25 season helps us huge. You only have 2 players signed in Marner and Rielly. Obviously you bring back Matthews and Nylander but if you want to talk about having financial flexibility, there's no better way then to have 45 million to reshape your team.
Could you tell me a little bit about Roy, please. I'm unfamiliar.

Good size at 6’1 and 200 pounds. Right hand defenceman. Can play in any game situation and log big minutes, he’s currently playing about 21 minutes a night. A good leader and works hard. In a way kind of reminds me of a lesser TJ Brodie.
Roy averaged just over 19 minutes last season with a healthy Doughty that averages over 26 minutes a night. Given our salary cap structure we can’t go out and afford someone like Dumba and I’m not really interested in this team giving up more future assets for rentals like a Manson. Roy is a very steady second pairing right hand defenceman. He’s an upgrade on Dermott and Holl and fits nicely now and long term. He's not a 20 minute guy on a good team. Doughty has been out for most of this season, which is why Roy has played more.

The question being, why do the Kings wish to move Roy?

That’s what makes it a realistic option/upgrade. I was trying to take a look around the league at teams not doing too well, not many good realistic options for the right side. Not to mention, this is Roy’s 4th season in the NHL and he’s improved each year. Maybe on a better team/blueline he’d do even better. He played 19 minutes for a really bad blueline.
I’d take him over Holl and Dermott, but think he’s only a minor upgrade. Not sure it’s worth paying an extra million over Holl.
Domi? Why the hell would they want to do that? That’s what makes it a realistic option/upgrade. Another option could potentially be Peeke. Maybe a deal that includes Domi at 50% retained. But personally I’d take Roy over Peeke.
Durzi looks determined to steal a job. He’s probably going to stick with the big club. Dermott gives them a cheaper option than Roy and someone who can play either side on the third pair. They also receive a solid bottom six player in Engvall who can play on either special teams and potentially a decent prospect. We get a defenceman who can slot in on the second pair whether that’s with Muzzin or Sandin and even though isn’t a huge upgrade on Dermott or Holl he’s still an upgrade.

Would love Gio next season if he came at around 2 mill.More for next year. But does giordano play both sides?
Given muzz NTC I think he is with us at least until
The last year. Unless he wants to go back to LA?
Ulimately the best case scenario for next
Year would be that muzz starts playing well again. Maybe the 2 week Olympic break is what he needs? If not he will be an expensive 3rd pair d next year. If so. We need a cheap top 4. Maybe gio wants to come home? His family are huge leaf
Fans. Just like the spezzas. Not for league min… but maybe to fit him in.
If he can play both sides.
Gio Brodie
Rielly. Lilly
Muzz. Sandin
might work.
If I’m including any of those players/prospects, a dman better than Roy better be coming back.I'm still not seeing what's in this for LA. So, they are going to trade their #2 D in time on ice, 26 years old, who is improving each year, for a bottom pairing D (of which they've already got a few), and a bottom six forward(of which they've already got a few)?
They have no need to save on cap, just to downgrade their roster.
Speaking of.. where exactly are we getting the cap room going forward, to take on Roy at 100%?
Roy is a nice player, but I don't think you've given them any reason to move him, for Dermott and Engvall.
Edit - rebuilding/retooling teams are looking for young quality players, or picks, if they are going to move older players... and at 26 that really isn't even an older player. If you suggested Amirov/Sandin/Lilly/Robertson for example, picks... they might listen, if you convinced them, and paid them enough. They aren't looking for other teams castoffs.
