Did anyone hear Russo on KFAN with Barreiro yesterday when he brought up the Greenway scratch the other night? Sounds like he showed up to the rink super late and wasn't the first time he has missed team meetings and so on. Seems to coincide with his energy and commitment level on the ice. I didn't hear the interview, but co-worker was telling me about it the AM and made mention that Russo said management is fed up with it. Maybe Greenway + Dumba somewhere does something for someone? Hard to give up on what Greenway "could be" but at this point, seems to be what he is.

I think a Pettersson trade could work cap-wise if you can do something with Fleury's deal this summer.

Greenway + Rossi + Lambos + 1st

Kaprizov - Pettersson - Zuccarello
Boldy - Eriksson Ek - Hartman
Duhaime - X - Foligno

then

Kaprizov - Pettersson - Boldy
Ohgren/Yurov - Eriksson Ek - Hartman

$10M to re-sign Boldy, Duhaime, Addison and Gustavsson, and find RW for Boldy/Rossi (or a C for Kap/Zucc), and that's if Rossi can stick next year.
Gaudreau, too, unless you are assuming that he will be gone next year.

I used to be a Greenway booster, but have been very disappointed in his development. He seems to be getting worse, not better. That's 3M in cap space (well really 2M+, assuming we factor in an ELC as a replacement) that we could use.

Very interesting. I wonder how steep the price would be? 1st+Peart+Beckman?
I would do that. Probably would prefer to package whatever we get for Dumba’s with a 2nd instead of sending the first though.

Wow, a trade that involves two of our top prospects and a 1st that I don't hate. Nicely done!
That does make me wonder if the Canucks would balk at it, but you wouldn't just get hung up on.

I recall Evason sounding a bit pissed in a postgamer last week when Greenway was out with a supposed nonCovid illness.

The d-corps is the least of my concerns for the team. They could use an upgrade to Middleton in the top-4, for sure. It's a far lesser concern than the team having only 4 top-9 FWDs on it's roster.

I'm a little more reserved about trading prospects than most people given the situation we're in. His contract situation makes me nervous. One more year on it, and I know he's an RFA at the end, but I don't want to get into a situation where he's looking for 11M+ and we can't give it to him so we go to arbitration and then end up not being able to keep him. For me, this trade would be contingent on him having a long term (7-8 year) deal already in place, which can't happen prior to July 1st.

Chychrun would be an incredible addition to a contender. Easily a top pair pair two-way guy and he's a great person too. His contract gives me pause too for the situation we're in. Only two more years, too early to extend him, not enough time to do anything with him without an extension. And would be expensive to acquire.

But man, if I thought we were in a position where it made sense to go after him, I would love to have him. Excellent player.

Bottom line, both Pettersson and Chychrun would be guys I'd be 100% fine with giving up actual value for, assuming we got to keep them longer than a couple years.

The untouchable list is very short for a player like EP: Wallstedt Kap, Boldy, and JEE
Because EP will play C on this team, Rossi would be in play going back to Vancouver. For that matter, JEE might be... very unlikely, though. He and his contract has a lot of value.

I have JEE in the untouchable list because he is the only quality center on the the team. Trade him (even for an upgrade) it still leaves the team in the same boat they are in now.
