I don't think that there is much of a danger of that. He has been on record multiple times, including recently, that he won't sell significant assets for a rental. He did say it would be a different story for a young player with team control for a couple of years or so.

I worry that we will be a bubble team, or a tad better (because STL and NSH are looking bad)and that BG will not get value by trading Dumba, preferring to keep him for yet another fruitless playoff run. I would rather that we get some value for Dumba(a late 1st, I'm thinking, especially if we retain), even though it makes us a weaker team for two months.
He won't trade Dumba, especially since this team is in position to make the playoffs.

I also don't trust that Guerin won't do something stupid; he was on record multiple times regarding Talbot and was quoted that he didn't have to do shit until he traded him suddenly. We also don't know what Leipold might be pushing, because if there is a chance this team could obtain a talent like Kane or Toews to help this team push to a playoff series win, I don't think Guerin is going to stick to that creed.

More so, what's probably going to happen is Minnesota is going to end up a bubble team. Chicago is going to go through a mini -rebuild, sell Toews and Kane, get multiple firsts back and then end up getting a guy like Fantilli and then curb stomp Minnesota for a few years on their way to getting a Cup. Minnesota fans are going to whine about not having a top line center, Kaprizov is going to leave, Minnesota continues to be a bubble team and then insist that they don't need to rebuild only retool because apparently just making the playoffs is good enough.

Russo has been subtly talking up Toews this season, while I personally don’t like him, it’s pretty easy to see that he is a potential target if they do decide to make a push this year.

Chicago is definitely rebuilding and Toews/Kane don't fit into those plans. Guerin already made one trade with Chicago, wouldn't surprise me if he kept tapping that.

Toews is 34 yo, and at this point, is a mediocre middle six C. Monahan and Mittelstadt have more points than him. He is tied for 73rd among C's in points, and 111th(tied with Mason Shaw) in ES points.

I sure as hell hope that BG is not in on him. The guy is near done, and his association with the abuse scandal that cost Quenneville his job makes him even less appealing.

I can imagine to many scenarios where we are dealing our 2023 first round pick.
Oh, I can. All sorts of them, nor am i necessarily against trading what is likely to be a late teens/20's first rounder.

Joe & Russo podcast with the GM today.
Ask questions through The Athletic, here's your chance to grill Guerin :D

Surprise...there's a ton of Walker questions.

Meant to say can't imagine us trading away our first this year. Unless the perfect center came around but when does that ever happen and we dont really have the cap space to make most of them work.

They are going to ask for more.

O’Rourke for Kupari
Fine.

Dumba(50%)+Greenway for Knies+‘23 1st+Holl

Toronto says no.

Merrill for 3rd
Fine.

Goligoski for 4th/retires

Goligoski for futures. I don't see him retiring.

MAF retires

More than likely LTIR. I also don't see him retiring.

I don’t want to give up a 1st and Yurov for an 8m Myers even though I love him as a player. He doesn’t fit our window which is pretty clearly after Kap leaves

‘23 1st+Yurov for Meier ($8Mx8 years) (Fiala reset) Let me know where we're finishing and i'll let you know.

O’Rourke for Kupari OK, but not dying to do it

Dumba(50%)+Greenway for Knies+‘23 1st+Holl Yes, all day long!

Merrill for 3rd Meh...I don't like him much, but he's cheap. We don't have better alternatives at the moment.

Goligoski for 4th/retires Don't see how that works

MAF retires He won't.

The mentality of MN sports fans. It's like a trauma response.

I agree with your sentiment on the Yurov for Meier deal. I don't see the fit. The poster your responded to had 5 trades that need to happen and then only maybe the cap works, and two retirements. Getting just one trade to work right in the NHL is a challenge, so this sounds overly optimistic.

I'd rather go Rossi+2nd for Horvat (6-8 x $8m re-sign). The cap works for the rest of the year. It's tight for next season ($400K-$500k in space) but they can play some cap games and make it work.

Kap/Horvat ($8m)/Zucc
Greenway/JEE/Boldy ($5.5m)
ELC/Hartman/Shaw(800k)
Duhaime ($800l)/Dewar/ ~$1m vet (Reaves?)

Brodin/Spurgeon
Middleton/Goli
Merrill/ELC

MAF/Gus ($2m)

Addison and Foligno traded at the draft. Dumba and Freddy G walk. Steel either traded or let walk.

Or option B is pay both Horvat and Boldy $8m long term deals and trade Zucc (harder to do and get a good return with his 10 team NTC) instead of Foligno. At best they could sign Horvat to $8m and keep Boldy + Addison for $8m (combined bridge deals) and Foligno, just by trading Zucc.

Not sure that a 5th+2nd is enough for a re-signed Horvat.

I don’t think Kap is here after this contract and I’m ok with that. We will have got his best years and even though they were wasted it will have been fun to watch him.

Yeah, their GM built a real winner alright…

He’s a rental based on his $10M qualifying offer. He shouldn’t get more than Fiala got.

That's why he'd be worth more; also Fiala didn't want to be in Minnesota, Guerin made that perfectly clear. It isn't Greir's fault that they made some stupid trades in the past.
