Where did Russo talk about Wild's handling of Rossi?
He spoke emphatically of it last night on his post game "Whine Line." Also voiced concern on what happens when Greenway comes back, thinks they will keep Dewar and doesn't get why we signed him to a 1 way for both years for this reason. Said they are now hitched to guys like Dewar and Steel, knows that Dean loves Freddy so hes assuming Rossi will get sent back to Iowa. Wants to see them give Rossi either a legit shot at 1C or between Boldy and Freddy before Greenway possibly comes back Saturday in Boston.

His biggest point of focus in regards to the handling of the scratch is that they took the easy way out playing the "rest" and fresh view card. Said that is something you use 20 games in to get a rookie going, not 20 shifts in. Noted his penalty vs LA but also said plenty of other vets had more egregious to cite. Just thinks that lying to the kid, and just not calling it for what it was is terrible management of a person and prospect... He thinks they wanted Shaw's physicality in the lineup, and instead of casting Marco in a place to succeed instead made him heed the brunt of the punishment for an underperforming lineup.

Appreciate the summary.

I'm not necessarily going to endorse Russo's take on it but I will say this: Rossi is the absolute last prospect they can afford to jerk around. For all the good they've done building up a prospect pool they've got virtually nothing behind Rossi at center. And not much ahead of him other than Ek and a couple of placeholders.

Not saying he should be spoiled or anything, but they're heavily invested in him panning out.

An interesting side note from the queue interactions with "callers." One guy specifically asked if there was anything behind the scenes in regards to Marco being "difficult" or causing distractions. Cited Fiala being in a dog house and wasn't sure if there were any similarities. Russo immediately shot those down and came to the defense of Marco handling everything like a pro, even if disappointed, coming to the rink and buckling down and working hard... found it annoying he is getting the normal "earn your spot" even though he was a proponent of taking it easy with him. The fact that he has earned it and got treated this way is what irked him most. But the most interesting part of it was he called back to Dean and Fiala having so many problems, and said there was a lot more behind the scenes (Re:Kevin) that never really came out, but that there was legitimate drama surrounding the player and how both parties were a bit divisive. Said there is absolutely non of that with Rossi... just pure bad handling of a prospect and nothing at fault of his.. couldnt say the same for Kevin.

If this is how Dean handles prospects who do everything right, I can't imagine why Fiala would have bad blood with Dean from their Milwaukee days or otherwise

Thing is, Russo doesn't know what's going on with Rossi more than we do. Russo was also drinking during that live chat, said he picked up a couple of drinks, I'd say his rants were more a result of this. And it looks like there's no recording of these chats.

There's something he said that I do believe though, he asked Rossi if the coach has talked to him about the reason why he isn't playing. And Rossi said no, he has no idea what's going on.

I’m not sure the point is whether or not Russo is right, its the right and wrong way to handle young players. Watch sports at any level for very long and the right way becomes pretty easy to distinguish from the wrong way. Dean is trying to check every damn box on the wrong side.

Yeah, I don't need Russo to tell me this isn't how Rossi should be deployed or developed.

To me it sounds like Russo the fan talking a lot more than Russo the reporter speaking.

Yeah Russo is looking for more subscribers (The Athletic), he needs to be popular among fans. So when he basically said f*** Evason and Guerin for treating Rossi like this, fans love it.

Russo was not drinking, that was pretty obviously just a joke made in regards to the dumpster fire (his comment about stopping by the Jack Daniels booth to pick up a shot or two).

I wonder if Guerin is looking at this team and saying the same thing he told Cam, "I don't have to do shit"

Russo lost all credibility when he left the Star Tribune. He is a bitch for the Athletic. I miss newspapers.

Outside of Fenton, Russo's got about a 15 year track record of doing mostly the opposite of this.
He wasn't a huge fan of the way Riser was doing things by the end, too. He's been known to call people out, but the train has to be pretty far off the rails before he starts.

Gonna be very annoying when the cap goes up $4M next year and it becomes clearer that this team could’ve easily afforded to keep Fiala.

Evason didn’t want Fiala at all , it seems he has the same hardon for Rossi

Was already clear we could have, but he's not an AHL grinder nor an aged out defensemen that Guerin knows from his prior career so he never had a chance

Fiala would be here if we wanted him to be. We could’ve moved Dumba or Zuccarello and taken less value back than we wanted but kept Fiala.

They either didn’t think the contract would age well or they are attempting to do what Boston did a decade ago by trading young talent (Seguin/Wheeler/Kessel) because they don’t fit the culture or system.

I do think they got good value and Faber is going to be a great player here. The concern is that Rossi may be next, but obviously it’s only been a few game and the whole team is a mess. But it’s fair for people to be nervous I’d say.

It starts with this with what Rossi is experiencing now and then after years of this and inconsistent messaging and ego challenging it becomes what Fiala was/is/reported to be.

GMs have known that this was a high possibility based off of projections from last year. I put something Friedman said about the topic out on this forum a few months back. It seems pretty obvious that the cap situation wasn’t the biggest factor in moving Fiala. There were obviously philosophical differences in the opinions of him within the organization and the opinions of the fans.

I need help. I'm going to just do my own HFBoards terrible trade tournament. If you guys know of a trade proposal that was truly awful, please let me know about it, and if you can find it, send me a link to it. Anyone who helps will get credited when (if) I can pull enough of these together by next summer.

Obviously, I'm starting with Slafy's MTL-MIN proposal, so don't send me that one.

We used to have a thread years ago talking about all the bad proposals we get. Was shut down because it was considered flaming or whatever.

We can discuss trades offered on the trade board, we can't link to individual posts within those threads talking about how far off base someone's opinion is, as that's no longer talking about the trade proposal anymore.

Same reason we can't link to posts in the opposition gdt. That's not talking about the game.
