Agree on Chisholm. He's improved step by step, found his stride, and learned to become more assertive. And, while Merrill is not ideal, he's filling that 7th D role quite well. You want him in the press box, but at the same time he's also a good stopgap in case one of the top 6 gets hurt, like Brodin now or Spurgeon earlier in the season. If any of them sees extended time off, I'd like to see Hunt in the roster over Merrill, but let's hope our main guys can remain healthy from here on out. Optimistic of me, I know.
At the same time, Jiricek is admittedly intriguing. A guy who's flawed defensively yet showcases clear potential in a big frame. He's got a lot of the tools, and would be interesting to see what a change of scenery does. I think the idea would be to put him with Brodin, replacing Bogo. We all know how good Brodin is defensively, plus his mobility should help cover some of DJ's shortcomings.
I also think we keep Chisholm on the roster, if just due to handedness. Management would probably prefer to hold onto our veteran presence, and it's not like Bogo deserves to be scratched, but it's also one of those good problems to have in a long and gruelling season. Merrill might end up dumped in that situation, Hunt stays down for now. This is of course assuming that none of our top 6 goes the other way, which seems to be the rumour for now.
It's intriguing. All depends on the price tag; as long as it's not any of the aforementioned "big 3", I'm more or less for it. Also don't think our 1st this year should be considered too valuable, even if more prospects is always a nice thing to have.
On one hand, I do hope we pull the trigger. Not exactly a need, but if a guy of his pedigree and potential is available at an agreeable price, it's always worth at least a strong consideration & dignified response. It also gives us one more exciting prospect to follow, plus could turn out to be a real steal in not too distant future.
On the other, I'm not exactly sold on Hunt as a main piece, especially when coupled with what looks to be a late 1st. That's why part of me is kinda scared. Losing Öhgren would sting, but him + 1st seems like a realistic outcome for now.
