The Lions of Trois-Rivières dream of Marie-Philip Poulin

by Steve Turcotte

CHRONICLE / Marie-Philip Poulin once again lived up to her nickname of female Sidney Crosby on Thursday night. She scored two goals, including the one that won the gold medal for the Canadian women's hockey team against the Americans at the Olympics.

(For) Marie-Philip Poulin, it's three gold medals and a silver medal at the Games. Three golden goals in each of (her) team's triumphs. She became the first (hockey player) – men included – to find the back of the net in four Olympic finals.

A unique track record, therefore, at only 30 years old. A prize list that could be enriched in the coming weeks, if she wishes!

Among the avalanche of congratulations that have swept over (Poulin) since this victory in the final, there was a text message from Marc-André Bergeron, of the Lions of Trois-Rivières.

She declined the offer. I thought it would have been a great PR move for both the Lions and women's hockey if she played one game for them.

And to think she finally had her chance to play with the boys.

She's not dumb. At 30 years old her 5'7" 161 pound frame has better things to do than become a hood ornament for a 6'2" 185 pound defenseman for stupid publicity stunt.

I see your point. A better idea would have been to offer her a position on the coaching staff instead of just using her as a publicity stunt. Regardless, it's probably best for her not to waste her time with some low-level ECHL team.
