You know the general consensus is that Conn Smythe immediately renamed the St.Patricks the Maple Leafs as soon as he bought the team. While they started the 1926/27 season as the St.Patricks they finished it as the Maple Leafs. But according to this quote from Morey's book it states that he couldn't change the name for it would nullify all the player contracts and make them free agents, so he kept the name St.Patricks for the entire 1926/27 season.

However he did change the uniforms. The belief is the uniforms looked like this.

But this page from Morey's book claims the new uniform featured a maple leaf on the breast over the word "Toronto" like the 1924 Olympic sweaters.

So that we would mean they looked like this only swap out "Canada" for "Toronto".

That would make more sense if the team was still officially called the St.Patricks. It wouldn't make sense to have "Toronto Maple Leafs" written inside the leaf if that wasn't officially their name.

What do you guys think of this?

Do you think he officially changed the name midway through the season and used that uniform as depicted above. Or do you think he had to keep the name St.Patricks as stated in Morey's book and used a leaf-styled sweater based on the Olympic team from 1924, a teaser of the new name to come the following season.
