I agree with you, but relying on both of these guys is not okay. Other players need to step up, it's more about the team culture rather than looking over to Clifford or Simmonds for help. That is what bothers me.

Only if they are on the ice with them!!! They can't jump over the boards and attack after the fact!

No doubt. If this was Boston or Tampa, they would have gone right after them. They wouldn't have cared who's on ice. I have seen Kucharov going after players after Stamkos getting hit

EXACTLY. You see it time and time again with other teams, no matter who is it, what is currently happening on the ice, the team instantly sees red and jumps in to defend the team.

This team just doesn't do it. It's pathetic and a huge problem for the playoffs.

I just hear all the time that having a tough physical presence will prevent these things from happening. It's almost like... it doesn't.
 
Well, I guess Marner got his wish, he's playing with grown men. Suck it up baby! The other teams smell fear and you and AM are gonna be the targets all year.
 
I wish Keefe or Dubas or Shanahan could at least say something about the officiating rather than letting the team continuously get f***ed over. Skilliter has some weird grudge against the Leafs and has no interest in protecting our players, and the organization doesn't have their back

refs don't protect players. teammates do.

refs call penalties, that's it.

this fallacy that refs need to protect our stars is pathetic.

Agreed but 1-1 after a Jets team that always gets up for these games and runs. Leafs with cheap shots... aka Marner.
