Yes, it's a gimmick to represent Bieber's brand. Maybe they'll flip them around in the warmup or something, but the black side will be used in game. I'd be shocked if I'm wrong.

$279 + tax is insane for a jersey, though. I actually didn't mind the Heritage Classic one, but they're $309 on the RS site. They seem to mark them up quite a bit on RS, considering you can get Adidas jerseys under $200 on sites like CoolHockey quite often. I have like 8 Leafs jerseys, bought the original Arenas one etc., but find it hard to justify the marked up cost for these.

Yeah, It'll be hard to justify that cost to my wife lol.

If you don't mind the authentic jerseys (fight strap/room for elbow pads) I suggest SVP Sports. They have Matthews & Tavares in both blue & white for 89.99. I grabbed a Matthews to put on the wall around Christmas.

Looks like the yellow/reversed side is more for branding.

The black and blue is a nice take .. way better than those grey reverse retro's, but they're trying to hard to make jersey's more "cool"

Meh it’s for one game. The amount of different nba and European football kits teams have and change out year over year trumps what the nhl has ever done. Heck, the blue jays have 4 official uniform sets, and special reds for the Canada day series, and multiple spring training and warm up combinations.
It’s for one special event game targeted to bringing youth into the arena.
I think the black and blue is pretty sharp.

I thought they were wearing the black/blue for the next gen game - similar to how they wore the older arenas sweater vs Carolina in '19. I was worried about the black/yellow but thats just the reverse side of the sweater. I don't want the Leafs wearing anything near a bruins design though.

They’re wearing the black and blue on Wednesday. The “reverse” side (the sweater turns inside out) for the retail version is a collab with Justin biebers “drewhouse” clothing brand.
It’s very similar to what the raptors do each year with their white or black & gold OVO (drakes clothing brand) uniforms & court.
It’s actually a very effective way to get the logo branding and name out there in different media circles to audiences that might not consume traditional entertainment or media than their usual sports centric wheelhouse.
