Undersized Finnish winger Veeti Miettinen dominated in the Finnish junior leagues this year. Playing in the Jr. A SM-Liiga, Finland’s Under-20 league, he put up 42 goals and 31 assists for 73 points in 52 games. Miettinen was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team. He was an alternate captain for the Kiekko-Espoo U20 team. He also played nine games for the Finnish National Under-20 Team, scoring two goals and two assists for four points.

Miettinen scored 27 goals and 34 assists for 61 points in 48 games last season. He also added five goals and 11 points in 11 games. Miettinen was named the league’s Gentleman of the Year and helped his team to a second-place finish. He also played for Finland at the IIHF Under-18 World Championships scoring a goal and four assists in five games. At the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, he scored two goals and three points in four games. Overall he had eight goals and 18 points in 25 games for the Finnish Under-18 team. At the 2017 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, Miettinen put up three goals and five points in five tournament games. He is committed to coming to North America and playing for St. Cloud State next season.

From the Athletic yesterday I believe... he's very high on Hirvonen as well had him as a projected 1st rounder.

"By 16, he had already been promoted to the under-20 level, where he’d immediately become a top forward on his team. By 17, a full year before his draft year due to his September 2001 birthday, Miettinen led his under-20 team in scoring with 61 points in 48 games, outscoring another of the draft’s top prospects, Roni Hirvonen (a projected first-round pick), in the process."

This Mock almost nails it for us.

Had us taking Amirov at 15, Niemla at 44 and Roni Hirvonen going to Ottawa at 33.

Nailed us drafting Amirov at 15. Got Niemla but 20 picks later at 64 and Hirvonen at 59.

Well now add Veeti Miettinen. In this mock he went 60th to Ottawa.

Seems like good value.

They did a really good job with the mock this year. By I think 13 they had all their 13 taken but not the exact order. They've been good for a few years now. I've been following them since I started here in the 2008 draft. I just wish they could keep up with the traffic at draft time. The site freezes all the time the last couple days.

Miettinen should be one candidate to make Finland's U20 WJC team.
But nothing isn't set in stone yet.

COVID19 is still extremely serious threat and a lot can happen before December 26th.
It is not secret COVID19 can still cause cancellation of 2021 U20 WJC's.
