It's such a complicated thing to calculate. Getting into a pot with Qatar will give whatever team that is a very good chance to qualify.
The biggest thing I am hoping for is that we don't draw Germany in pot 2.
Part of me wants a really tough group. Expectations are for 2026 - give me Brazil/Netherlands or something fun to see where we are and get some real good experience.
I definitely want at least one big team. Qatar + non-Germany/Netherlands will be disappointing.

I don't disagree. I would definitely like 1 big team. I just would like 1 non-big team as well.
I'd be fine with Qatar/Germany or non-Qatar and say Serbia.
This is the last 32 team World Cup.
2026 will be 16 groups of 3 where the top 2 from each group move to single elimination knockouts (same number of games possible per team but more games overall spread over the same number of days)

something i have been thinking about since sunday is that it's too bad that Alphonso Davies wasn't with the team in person this window. i don't know if this is something that was talked about behind the scenes, but how special a life moment would it have been for him to celebrate with the team on the pitch. Bayern could have allowed him to fly over just to be with them on the sidelines. it's not like he would have been at risk for injury which is the obvious reason why clubs are hesitant to send players on international duty.

i believe hes training with bayern at the moment getting ready for a return(great news). but ye wish he could have been part of it. but he will be there for qatar thank jeebuz!

1) Karma - Qatar drawing one of Denmark, Netherlands, Germany for pot 2 would be wonderful. While having the 52nd best team in the world hosting is always going to have them have a weaker group, giving them a legit pot 1 candidate would at least offer some balance.
2) Anarchy - The most ridiculous thing that could happen in this draw is if Qatar drew Senegal, Canada and Tunisia.
3) While pot 1 is just assigning teams to letter, count the Euro-Euro combos for pot 2. Less means less chance we get locked in against a Euro opponent.
4) Not only do we want to look at our pot (for whether we have a shot at advancing), but we want to look at the corresponding group (where A corresponds to B, C to D, E to F, and G to H) because one in one group plays two in the corresponding group in the knockout round.

Pretty stupid to restrict this game Sportsnet360 despite the ratings the National Team is drawing. I mean really every other SN channel just has two show Jets-Sabres? That’s a marquee matchup that you have to put Team Canada on the specialty channel.

1-0 loss. Sucks but the main goal of a World Cup berth was gotten. Finished first in the qualifying group as well, for whatever that’s worth.

ye our passing for the 1st hour between our midfield and forwards was really bad. i suppose after such a high from sunday this game was always gonna be an uphill battle. oh well! qatar here we come!
