Kaden Chung is on trial with TFC. Another Pacific FC standout, hoping he makes it as he has been fun to watch in the CPL.

I know nothing of Jimenez. I know he's a different position but how would he compare to when we brought in Vazquez?
Vazquez came to our team and instantly brought creativity to our midfield .. his balls to Altidore and Seba were always pure creativity .. i hope we have someone this year who can unleash our talent by getting balls to Poz and Insigne .. what I don't want to see is Bradley relying on Bradley jr to do that job .. Bradley jr never could and he has gotten much slower too .. if we do then you know it is a bad father son deal here

Right now, it looks like we will start the season with a back 3 (unless something changes). I'd think that we would play Bradley right in front of the back 3 (with the option to drop back and make it a 4 as he has done in the past).

For attacking, we are likely to start with Jimenez (and Destro if he comes) up front with Pozuelo and Shaffelburg being two of the advanced midfielders. I wouldn't object to trying Akinola in midfield as well, and shifting him from attacking midfield to 3rd attacker as the situation warrants.

or even 2 2 2 4

Vazquez played midfield wing and was able to dribble ball to centre midfield and make creative plays to Seba and Altidore .. who is going to receive passes from Bradley to midfield side and make creative plays to get balls to Jimenez and Poz .. Shallelburg will be a runner down other side for crosses .. but who is gonna make things happen with creative soft passes to open up scoring chances for our offensive guys????????????

I think what you will see is Osorio and Poz doing most of the progressive ball movement work. Poz will drop into pockets of space that are less advanced than what we saw last year. Osorio is actually a really efficient progressor of the ball, he is great at linking the 3 phases of the field. Between the two of them, I wouldn't be too concerned. Oso also has good work rates coming back so he will also be able to provide coverage.

I imagine Bradley will want to play a 4-3-3 of kinds since that has been his preferred formation through the last few years. It will be interesting to see who lines up at RW as most of the offensive talent has operated on the left in the past. Maybe Ayo slides in there. Schaffelburg is the other interesting one, he has been taking reps as a FB this spring training. I wonder if we see him play a kind of Laryea-esque role this coming season. Back 4 is still taking shape at the moment Caicedo is obviously a huge improvement on the overall spine.

Could be something like this;

Insigne - Jesus - Akinola
Poz - Oso
Bradely
Back 4 of some kind.

No matter how we adjust, it will likely be Bradley passing to a midfield that is in front of him. If Osorio is back, he's definitely one of those guys IMO.

Also, we will definitely add at least one defender.

Yeah - agreed. I also think you are spot on with starting with a 3 back system. Put Shaff on the left side until Insigne is available.

Also on the note of Bradley, I think he is still more than serviceable in his role. He is definitely slower and not as proficient in winning duels. That being said he still reads the game well and can find passeses.

Would love to know what these totals of TAM and GAM are looking like. MLS would do well to someday lessen the complexity of their cap system. Diehards following along is a good thing, and they don't really make it possible

During his introductory press conference, Bob Bradley made a point of acknowledging that Michael was approaching the twilight of his career and that his plan was to deploy him in a supporting role that would be reflective of his current ability. I'm sure he'll be a starter most of the time, but I can definitely seeing him playing in front of the back line and being relied on to distribute to our attacking midfielders.

The MLS has outgrown the current system, and if they want to develop further need to do away with some of it.

We have a shitload of cap space at the moment.

Certainly do. Be interesting to see if some of the rumoured players end up coming.

I love Oso but honestly I hope da plan is not for him to be da ball distributor .. he is a solid 2way midfielder but we need someone with some creativity and touch .. if Bradly junior is gonna be our defensive holding midfielder and Poz plays on top end of box as a #10 attacking midfielder for Jesus and Insigne and OSO plays like a #9 then we are still going to need someone to make da plays

I don't see a problem here...

Also, there's a chance that Jimenez plays wide left beside Pozuelo at times to add more to the attack.

Da issue is very simple when we won we had a creative midfielder who played top of box to top of box who had ability to put balls into places for many easy goals through touch passes .. Poz likes to get ball in attacking side of field and dribble it ..but maybe there is a player incoming to help on passing midfield front .. i know Insigne can run and play wide and score of long passes .. don't know how Jesus plays but like in hockey it is all about FIT

It legitimately shocks me that you continue to type like this.

Giovinco on TFC: 'I was told that I was not in their plans' - TSN.ca

Two weeks ago, Sebastian Giovinco thought he was returning to Toronto FC. This week, he's a Sampdoria player.

The 35-year-old former Italy forward told the Serie A side's website that he was told TFC has no longer interested in his services before he signed with the Genoa-based club.

Giovinco, who spent four years with the Reds from 2015 to 2018, had been training with the team at their Florida preseason camp.

“As you all know, I had been training with Toronto until ten days ago," Giovinco said. "I had almost closed a deal with them, but then it collapsed. I was told that I was not in their plans. Three days later, I received a call from Sampdoria. I want to enjoy every moment here."

In January, TFC president Bill Manning said the club was open to bringing the 2015 Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player back to the club.

“I have a lot of respect for Sebastian in that he’s made it clear to us that he would like to finish his career in Toronto in the right way and we’re very respectful of that,” Manning said. “He’s made it clear to us that it’s not about money right now and that clears a big hurdle. And now it’s going to be about the fit. And Bob getting the chance to know him and him getting a chance to see Bob and where he would fit in. And then if all is good from that standpoint, we take the next steps."

Giovinco, who still lives in Toronto, says he jumped at the prospect of returning to Serie A.

“I’ll play with Fabio [Quagliarella] and Antonio [Candreva] and I am so happy," Giovinco said. "I’ve always had a good rapport with them. Several of my ex-teammates speak highly of coach Marco Giampaolo, but I didn’t even have time to think about it. I immediately said yes."

Prior to joining TFC, Giovinco spent eight seasons in Serie A with Juventus, Parma and Empoli.

Giovinco's first opportunity to suit up for his new club comes on Sunday when Sampdoria travels to the San Siro to take on Milan.

I remember being a kid and a friend of mine would always eat fish and chips. To this day I sometimes remember him stretching out the words and slowly saying... One order of fish and chips. But that place was on the Queensway.

Altidore bids farewell to Toronto FC in social media post - TSN.ca

TORONTO — After seven seasons, star striker Jozy Altidore has bid farewell to Toronto via a social media post.

While Toronto FC has not said much about Altidore's absence from training camp, his departure was expected. Coach Bob Bradley, who doubles as the MLS team's sporting director, said earlier this week an announcement on the 32-year-old forward's future was coming "shortly."

In typical Altidore fashion, he made the announcement himself.

A source, not authorized to speak publicly on the matter because talks have been ongoing behind the scenes, said TFC and Altidore's representatives have been in prolonged discussions about a contract buyout. The New England Revolution reportedly is waiting in the wings to sign Altidore, one of TFC's three designated players.

Friday's social media post to Altidore's 197,000 followers, accompanied by a photo of the player waving to the crowd, suggests those talks have finally concluded.

"Thank you Toronto and all the fans for a wonderful seven years," he wrote. "To all the staff and my teammates throughout this time, THANK YOU!! Toronto will always be home. Thank you MLSE and Larry and Judy Tanenbaum for all of your support over the years. See you soon and all the very best in the future."

Larry Tanenbaum is chairman of the board of directors of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which owns the team. Judy is his wife.
