That's just one part of the equation. It's the development of the game at the grassroots level that has really taken off in this country over the last decade. Now we are able to harness young talent from coast to coast, regardless of ethnicity.
Thing is,the development of Canadian born football players is in its infancy.Hockey still rules unfortunately, every parent with dreams of their kids making it to the NHL.Just look at our football team today, thank god for our immigrants.:thumbu:

Actually, soccer has been the number one participation sport for kids across the country for a long time, well before there were Canadian teams in MLS. Soccer is a much more affordable option for most parents compared to hockey.

The difference now is that we have the proper infrastructure in place to nurture these kids and develop their skills at the highest level.

Well,If that’s what you want to believe.Just look at Canadian squad
and tell me how many Canadian born players are first choice players.

The same number as in 2008 when we finished last in our semi-final qualifying group?

Using aggregate minutes played:

2008: Hirschfeld, Stalteri, Serioux, McKenna, De Guzman, De Rosario, Hutchinson (not born in Canada: Klukowski, Radzinski, Hume, Gerba)
2022: Vitoria, Henry, Johnston, Laryea, Hutchinson, Eustaquio, Larin, (not born in Canada: Borjan, Adekugbe, Davies, David)

Its all about the development.

Disappointing turn of events. Hopefully we can try again in a few months.

Hopefully Jimenez's impressive strike rate in the Polish league will translate to MLS.

I know nothing of Jimenez. I know he's a different position but how would he compare to when we brought in Vazquez?

Vasquez was definitely facing better competition and had the better pedigree personally. I was thrilled when Vasquez was signed, it was always just about injury concerns with him and I saw him as the final piece to put us over the top.

Jimenez I have more of a wait and see approach. I like it a lot if it’s not a TAM signing.

And Auro officially gone now, the back line needs some work.

Different kinds of player. Jesus plays higher up the pitch and is a lot less technically gifted than Vasquez was. He is a good finisher and should be a solid MLS option, but I think the wait-and-see approach is the best option here.

What do you guys mean by or how do you define development?

i only say this because some mention mls and all that but I’m. It sure how many on the national team came through the youth ranks on mls?

unfortunatly for TFC Buchanan slipped through the cracks

but guys like eustaquiao played in Portugal very young was was even part of their youth national teams at the U 21 level

david played in Ottawa in the youth clubs but went to Belgium really early and never played for mls teams
Vitoria always played in Portugal
Even Osório didn’t come through TFC academy as he was picked up off csl I believe

don’t get me wrong there are very good strides being made in the youth system here and with mls but it’s been good players coming about at the same time and committing to Canada
We have had good players in past (deguzman and such) but they chose other national teams
