Why Columbus does this - Helps with the playoff run, with Matthews, Monahan, Silinger as centers. Having the captain of team USA will help the team financially. Columbus has Cayden Lindstrom, Silinger and Matthews for the future is pretty nice for centers.

The Jackets have many things going on, but financial issues are not one of them. And while Matthews is an upgrade on Fantilli right now, he's not enough of one to justify losing both KJ and Mateychuk as well (both of whom are playing huge roles in that same playoff run).

Playing with Marner and under Keefe's offensive system definitely helps Matthew's numbers. But that doesn't mean Matthews wants to stay though, since the next contract is probably his last big contract, he'll probably go to the highest bidder. I think he'll go back to the US, maybe Florida with the low taxes

Oh well if hes going to leave Columbus for Florida why would they want to make this trade?

Have they not lost enough superstars in Ohio to the Florida based teams?

Yep, that's what's going on here. You guys drafted your core and running with it for better or worse, Columbus is gearing up to do the same. They are exceeding expectations with many kids leading the charge, why the hell would they trade a large portion of that for potentially 3 years of Matthews? Especially if he's playing injured and not even the same player this year
