Assuming leafs make a major move this summer, was wondering who says no to this deal.

To WSH ; Auston Matthews

To TOR: Dylan Strome + 2026 1st (top 5 protected) + Ryan Leonard/Cole Hutson (dont care which one, happy with either prospect)

Would this be a blockbuster the Caps would entertain? Id be willing to also retain up to 3.25M if WSH has a cap issue if it brought another 1st (2025) but if WSH has no cap issues then dont need to retain

Let me know thoughts. Thanks

Leafs pass. Strome in TO would be a disaster.
I'm not sure why that would be the case.

Even if he's not a 82 pt player like this year, the two seasons before that he was ~65 pt player.

We would be acquiring him with expectation to be 65-70 pts and giving us the offense Tavares would give at his deal.

He would be an elite 2C. And leave us a lot of cap room to throw Bennett or even use the assets from this deal (1st + Leondard/Hutson + Cowan) to add a upgrade 1C to pair onto the team.

I dont see why Strome can't be as effective as Tavares was at 11M in TOR when both have skating and defensive issues

Who was taken right before Marner in the draft? If Marner walks and we replace him with the guy taken before... well good luck to his poor soul.

Pass. It doesn't work cap wise because Caps can't sign McMichael long-term after this.

If there is a deal to be made cap wise it'd be Strome + McMichael + one of the Caps D's Fehervary/Sandin for Matthews and something but the deal isn't very good value-wise for Washington and they are looking to get younger rather than older.

It may be a cop out, but I think Matthews doesn't waive his NMC. It's less about Washington and more about being pretty happy in Toronto, IMO. Some players don't like the attention, but he seems to really enjoy being the Big Man on Campus in the sport's largest market.

If I were to move Mathews I’d want a deal based around Byfield or Cooley. He’s not getting traded to the east if he were I don’t think anyone would beat the package Buffalo would offer probably around Power with a boat load of futures.

Always loved AM34 but his recent injury history scares me. He has a history of wrist injuries and didn’t he hurt his hand this year as well? Not something you want to hear for a guy with an elite shot. Matthews is clearly better than Semin but Semin was never the same after his wrist injuries started.

Value aside, would feel terrible trading Strome. He wrote an article in The Players Tribune about how much he loves Washington and how grateful he is to be playing here, and to turn around and trade him to Toronto would be a kick in the pants.

Hus kncreade thus year csn br attributed to higher PP rsnking/ stats

Hes s mid 40s non PP stats.

The offer is dumb. Toronyo would want a better center coming back

did someone rufie Treliving? this is as bad a deal as i have seen in my entire life, and i'm OLD

would the Caps entertain it... are you kidding?

It would be extremely sad to move Strome out but I would 100% do this and anyone who thinks otherwise is insane
