Is thiis the most reasonable deal of the deadline? I'm not sure it was the correct deal for the leafs but seems the most fair value wise.

2x 2nds for an older 2nd pairing dman
3rd for a bottom six forward.

Blackwell is honestly more of a middle 6 forward IMO. He's pretty underrated, has a great motor and is pretty skilled.

Could see him having success with alongside Tavares and Nylander and allow them to push Kerfoot back to C.

Rangers fan here - Blackwell is definitely underrated. He's got a nice shot and can finish. He came through for us a lot when slotted into our second line on the right side last year.

They are already a solid team defensively and added another good dman who has good defensive metrics and has some compete/bite to his game. They became harder to play against today.

The leafs are not making a blockbuster trade at the deadline. They kept their first and prospects and roster outside of their 8th dman in Dermott. Fans don't want to hear it, but the Leafs are good enough to win. The question is always will they. Star players show up it's GG's

The right deal for the leafs comment was more so a question about goaltending.

Happy with these two additions. Both hard nosed players with high compete levels. Exact type of players the leafs need more of. Hoping Blackwell has a Bunting type impact on the 2nd line and is brought back next year. Will have to watch Gio play before judging hum but I was under the impression he has regressed to a 3rd pairing D. Happy to have him but not expecting anything close to 2019 Gio

Well to be fair, the answer is a 2nd pairing D and starting G. Hard to find those players for 2nd round picks
why not just keep the picks then? seems like dubas is feeling the heat. it’s kind of a bummer cause toronto has some really great players. the gm just never figured out how to build a ‘team’ though

Good move by Toronto. Nothing to really criticize here. It’ll look bad if they don’t win anything, but that’s the game.

I mean, Dubas has addressed the Leafs perceived weakness every single offseason, and then every single post season they Leafs big players fail to show up (Marner, Matthews, Tavares, Freddy). I'm not really what more Dubas can do to give this core a shot at winning without completely dismantling it. At some point it falls on the players. I know the HF special would be to move all the Leafs star players but that is something that happens extremely rarely in real world scenarios.

Also, wouldn't say Dubas is feeling the heat, if he was worried about his own position he would have moved the 1st rounder, don't you think?
