I do wonder what the heck Cleveland is doing. With the rumors of Josh Naylor being a trade candidate, and now Gimenez gone to the Jays. Can they even be competitive in a weak AL Central, now?

Wouldn't be surprised if this is freeing up money for something else. I'd heard a rumor on a podcast a while back that they'd hoped to unload that contract since Gimenez hasn't lived up to the offense he put up during 2022 that got him that deal.

Fair.

So I guess Horwitz is going to replace Naylor in a subsequent trade? Or at least be a backup.

The Pirates are putting together a great team if it was 1989, now a 1B with below average power to go with a 3B with even less
Such a weird trade for Pittsburgh. I can understand from Cleveland perspective as I'm sure they weren't psyched about paying the big money that was gonna be due from Gimenez in the next few years and they have some very good middle infield prospects that can hopefully come up and replace him.

Jays absolutely needed middle INF help and there is a lot to like about Gimenez so they are taking a bit of a risk on his batting but we know what he does in the field.

Horowitz is a nice player but he's already 27 and I wouldn't expect a ton more growth out of him. He can be a versatile position player and a productive hitter but seems odd as a player to target and trade 3 - 1 for.

He is still Pre-Arb Eligible, that was the biggest tool the Pirates were looking for

God, being a Pirates fan is just getting kicked in the dick every day. Giving up assets for a shitty 27 year-old AAA 1B with no power. Brilliant, just what this team needed. Less power in the corner infield. That's worked so consistently well for decades on end that we just need to overpay for leftover slop.
