To TOR: Foerster
To PHI: Cowan, Hildeby

Admittedly I am not sure if top prospect for young NHLer makes a ton of sense for Philly but I can see them wanting to bring in Cowan. Philly has a glut of top 6 RW and in theory would be dealing from a position of strength. Toronto needs a top 6 RS RW with Marner leaving. Toronto has basically no RS forwards in their system.

It all depends what Leafs amateur and pro scouts think of all 3 players.

Gun to my head, Toronto says "no". But it's not absolutely terrible and COULD make sense, maybe. Perhaps Philly should be adding a draft pick.

Wasn’t there a rumour that MIN offered Rossi for Foerster one for one and PHI said no? Seems like they hold him in high regard and he’s still young enough to be part of their next core. Cowan + Hildeby doesn’t fetch that.

It depends how much Briere values Cowan. I could see him valuing bringing Cowan in to play with Barkley and Bonk.

The only assets the Flyers have that should be harder to justify trading than Foerster are Michkov, #6, next year's #1, and maybe Luchanko. He's already putting up 20-25 goal seasons working mostly with Cates as his center, and Cates has the offensive instincts of a sycamore tree. I would want to hold onto him to see what happens if we pair him with someone who has top 6-caliber vision and passing. I think he could become a 35-40 goal guy under those circumstances.

What about Woll+Cowan for Foerster+Hathaway?

I don't think Woll is materially better for the Flyers, long term, than just waiting for Zavagrin and/or Bjarnason to finish developing. We're not going to be a good team next year either way, so we might as well ride with a lesser pairing in net and try to position ourselves for a legitimate shot at McKenna. We can try to fix the G position after next season, when we've gotten more of the pieces in place.

ETA: You could certainly find Flyers fans on here with a different perspective, but I'm broadly of the opinion that we should make the on-ice product worse next season, not better. I'm kind of hoping DB does something shocking like trade Konecny for #4, adding a serious prospect for the future. (Lord knows this team makes a lot more sense in three years time if we end up with a first line of Michkov/Hagens/Martone than if we have a then 30-year-old TK making just shy of $9M per and going into the downswing of his career.)

Wouldn’t Cowan for Foerster be a step towards the future? Both players are very young but you do get 3 years younger and 3 years further from UFA. I’m not saying Foerster is destined for early UFA but the option exists.

We're really not at a point where we're looking to trade Foerster. He's not untouchable, but he's kinda at a point where it'd need to be a silly offer to tempt us.

If the plan was to kick the can down the road without any sort of end in sight, or if we were at the very start of this process and didn't have an anchor prospect to time the rebuild around, perhaps, but the goal is to broadly align the team's growth curve with Michkov's, and Foerster's only 23. He's not someone who needs to move in order to prep the team for success in 3-5 years' time, he's someone who can be a big part of that period. If you were asking for someone who's in their prime now and offering Cowan as part of the package, then it'd make a lot of sense with the growth curve I want to see for the Flyers, but this is swapping out someone in the right age range who's already doing it at the NHL level for someone in the right age range who isn't yet.

I think the Leafs probably prefer to see what Cowan can do as a professional. He also has more years of team control. If he can contribute early, he'll be more valuable to them considering their cap situation.

Konecy certainly would return more than the 4th pick in this draft right?

Can't see the flyers trading him this soon, maybe in a couple of years depending what happens or he ends up a Flyer for life.

I would certainly hope so, he should also return another nice piece or two IMO, but something like that would represent the major pieces going each way, if I was structuring a deal to set the Flyers up for a shot at McKenna.

2026 is a very good draft and the way the lottery works no team should be putting their eggs too much into the one player basket.

I think Philly is a lottery team next year even with Konecy

Their center situation is abysmal.

Ocean’s likely upside in 20-30g ~50pts which is basically what Foerster is now so pointless to kick the can down the road. Maybe Cowan becomes a legit top 6 player but then again so can Foerster

I wouldn’t be against trading Foerster for C or D though
