Speaking of the Sens, it's kinda cute that everyone sees the Sens as some super young upcoming team whose window is just opening while the Leafs are some over the hill team with their window closing.

When realistically, the Sens are only about 2yrs younger than the Leafs - the Leafs had already been elite for a number of years at the Sens' current age (where they've been a bottom feeder).

Ages

Norris 23 ----- Matthews 25
Tkachuk 23 --- Marner 25
Debrincat 25 -- Nylander 26

Giroux 34 ----- Tavares 32
Batherson 24 - Bunting 27
Stutzle 20 ----- Kerfoot 28 (Robertson 21/Knies 20?)

Gambrell 26 --- Kampf 27
Joseph 25 ----- Jarnkrok 31
Formenton 23 - Engvall 26

Pinto 22? ------ Steeves/Holmberg/Abruzzese 23?
Watson 30 ----- Kubel 26
?????????? ------ ?????????

Chabot 25 ------ Rielly 28
Zub 28 ---------- Brodie 32

Hamonic 32 ----- Muzzin 33
Holden 35 ------- Giordano 39

Sanderson 20 ---- Sandin 22
Brannstrom 23 --- Liljegren 23
Zaitsev 31 -------- Holl 30

Forsberg 30 ------ Murray 28
Talbot 35 --------- Samsonov 25
Sure?

I was only commenting on getting rid of Murray somehow without giving up a shit ton

I'm sure most see the window closing because of the Cap and contract situations of the Leafs, not the talent the currently have.

What cap and contract situations?

Yeah he lost it a lot in that compilation lol. Need an adhesive to keep it glued to his glove.

To get rid of Matt Murray and his contract? It’s absolutely nothing to the Sens

I guess I just don't agree, and then they replaced him with a much older backup goalie. Not sure why people think the Sens had some amazing offseason, likely still a bottom 10 team, unless you think Giroux is the same as 5 years ago and Debrincat is putting up similar numbers away from Kane.

The lack of retention still stings, I get that Murray's contract was backloaded and getting more retained was harder but I think if you are the leafs and you cant get 50% retention you just move off this idea and look at other options.

I get the sense that Murray was Dubas guy and by that point, almost like a sunken cost fallacy, he preferred him at an unreasonable cap hit vs the other options.

This is the reason in my opinion it should put Dubas' job on the line, not just the return on that asset, not just the fact that he's been brutal for 3 years but more so the fact it seemed the trade was happening no matter what, all because of his relationship with this player.

In terms of GMs, that kind of behavior is not conducive to success. It's fine to have insight into a personality of a player given the history you have with them, that's advantageous, but when that advantage transforms into something larger than reality because of your own bias, thats a huge problem

I would think Dubas would be aware of this given his analytical background

Because some peoples think Matthews will leave to the States because he wants to "go home". And yet, reject the notion that McDavid will "come home" a year later.
Are we talking about a closing window of ~2 years or do you mean imminently closing?

The window isn’t closed, it’s closing.
Why would a team with their two best players aged 25 have a closing window?

Lemme guess - you're projecting the Leafs miss the playoffs....again.
I called that the year they dumped Hainsey and brought in Sparks. This year it's unlikely. Unless the goalie situation goes real bad.

Go back before we got him too, find me one apologist now who thought 75 percent retention was worth it. They don’t exist, the goal posts just keep moving to defend everything we do.
I honestly feel this is an 'end justifies the means' scenario.
If Murray puts up Vezina numbers and carries us deep into the playoff it becomes a steal.
If Murray poops the bed, we got thrashed in the trade.
If Murray is mediocre, then we can split hairs as to weather he was good enough to justify the trade.
