I'm in shock, had much more faith in Dubas
Take deep breath, brother.

Let's wait for the regular season and see how this plays out.

Leafs are likely going to make more trades and I think we are going to get another goalie to work with a tandem.

People make arguments like this all the time when it comes to Dubas and the Leafs.

The problem isn't the 1.5M here. It's 1.5M on this deal, a bit too much for Marner, a bit too much for Tavares, etc. When you have quite a few players making a little too much, it adds up to a significant number for the whole roster.
And yet we still finished 4th overall in the league with close to the worst goaltending. Crazy that he can "overpay" good players slightly and still manage to win games.

Dubas is no longer building a team anymore, but playing the slot machine at Vegas. $4.69 million cap hit for a redemption project?

This is bang on. Reactionary desperation moves left and right. I've seen this movie with plenty of Leafs GMs in my lifetime. Dubas walked into the perfect situation here, but he's bottling it now.

Ok, what if Murray is injured and immediately goes on LTIR and is miraculously recovered and good to go for the playoffs…

Skinny Dave Nonis confirmed. Remember when they analyzed Dave Nonis' draft vs a Potato? Good times. Basically the same GM

You know, if the goal was to finish top 5 in the regular season you'd be right. All hail dubas.

But the fact that we havent won jack f***ing shit in six years, maybe you should humble yourself as to what this god damn team has really accomplished.

And before we say this was the best leafs team ever....... matthews fell to them and marner was a hunter pick (hunter sucks) and nylander was not a dubas pick either.

Rielly was a burke pick.

So rielly our best 5 players, only JT was brought by dubas. And I'm not sure that was a great thing that happened either. So really....... what has dubas and co accomplished here?

Without looking it up I'm going to guess Murray is owed a big signing bonus on Wednesday and that's why Ottawa was in such a rush to get this done?

Why else wouldn't Dubas' have waited to see what shakes out with free agents?

I can't agree with you there.
I hope to have a Cup hangover in less than that.
Who is the last Cup winning keeper they have had?
Belfour? I'd love a cup hangover too, I hope you're right, I'm getting sick of 1st round loss hangovers.

I wonder if the Leafs numbers department thinks we just landed the 18th best goalie in the game. If not, I don't think they're Moneyballing properly.
Leafs were 18th overall in goals against last season so if Murray is the 18th best starting goalie that would be a match there, to remain status quo defensively. :wg:

The real concern is the injury history.. Injuries are one of the reasons behind his struggles, including a concussion that forced him to miss the final 25 games of the 2021-22 season. He’s expected to resume skating next week, according to a report by Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

Last 25 games on regular season, + all the playoffs and now just hoping to get back on the ice in mid July to start skating for the first time, and we don't even know how that will turn out.. That is one serious concussion he is coming off of and this isn't even his first in his career. Last time he was on the ice was March 5th .

This is a pretty high risk move at a significant cap hit to have a lot of room for another solid NHL goalie as a backup plan in case of injury.

It's insane how much the Toronto media will do mental gymnastics to act like Dubas is amazing.

That argument is truly bad faith. 1.5M goes a long way as we have proven quite a few times in the last couple of seasons.

f***, you want give up the 1.5M, at least get something better back?!
they all work for the same parent company , expect the insiders led by Elliot to start brainstorming how to spin this

i can't fathom how anyone can defend this deal , we basically traded more to get rid of a bad injury prone goalie than we got back for a bad injury prone goalie who makes 1m more

as little as i think of Dubas i still can't believe he was stupid enough to make this trade
