1.5M extra for a big maybe hurts a lot when we have 4 players making 40M and consuming the majority of the cap.
$1.5 million might be 2/3 of the salary for someone like Ilya Samsonov.

Take deep breath, brother.I'm in shock, had much more faith in Dubas
Some upcoming trades for picks I presume.Thats fair and reasonable, but here is my question. Do you think with 6 million, you can find a backup, resign Sandin Engvall, and create a new 4th line?
And yet we still finished 4th overall in the league with close to the worst goaltending. Crazy that he can "overpay" good players slightly and still manage to win games.People make arguments like this all the time when it comes to Dubas and the Leafs.
The problem isn't the 1.5M here. It's 1.5M on this deal, a bit too much for Marner, a bit too much for Tavares, etc. When you have quite a few players making a little too much, it adds up to a significant number for the whole roster.
Dubas is no longer building a team anymore, but playing the slot machine at Vegas. $4.69 million cap hit for a redemption project?
Highly doubt this happens and you don't want a goalie with his history coming cold into the playoffs like that.Ok, what if Murray is injured and immediately goes on LTIR and is miraculously recovered and good to go for the playoffs…
This is bang on. Reactionary desperation moves left and right. I've seen this movie with plenty of Leafs GMs in my lifetime. Dubas walked into the perfect situation here, but he's bottling it now.
You know, if the goal was to finish top 5 in the regular season you'd be right. All hail dubas. And yet we still finished 4th overall in the league with close to the worst goaltending. Crazy that he can "overpay" good players slightly and still manage to win games.
Dekes For Days is in the fetal position. That’s a tough turd to shine.

Solid plan. I just have one question? Which goalie got us to the playoffs?Ok, what if Murray is injured and immediately goes on LTIR and is miraculously recovered and good to go for the playoffs…

Cant win more than 3 games in the playoffs thoAnd yet we still finished 4th overall in the league with close to the worst goaltending. Crazy that he can "overpay" good players slightly and still manage to win games.
1 for team dubas
Belfour? I'd love a cup hangover too, I hope you're right, I'm getting sick of 1st round loss hangovers.I can't agree with you there.
I hope to have a Cup hangover in less than that.
Who is the last Cup winning keeper they have had?
Leafs were 18th overall in goals against last season so if Murray is the 18th best starting goalie that would be a match there, to remain status quo defensively.I wonder if the Leafs numbers department thinks we just landed the 18th best goalie in the game. If not, I don't think they're Moneyballing properly.
they all work for the same parent company , expect the insiders led by Elliot to start brainstorming how to spin thisIt's insane how much the Toronto media will do mental gymnastics to act like Dubas is amazing.
That argument is truly bad faith. 1.5M goes a long way as we have proven quite a few times in the last couple of seasons.
f***, you want give up the 1.5M, at least get something better back?!
