Bourne's a clown.

The logic here is that it's only a 2 year deal, his cap hit makes him 17th in starting goalie salary, he was better than Campbell last season behind a worse team and they must have assurances from Sanford and Elkin that there are improvements to be made.
Pretend the Kassian trade never happened or the Buffalo rumour didn't leak and I'm not even disappointed by *only* getting a 3rd.

The deal is a positive with some real risk, but I just wish we got more assets/more retention to better justify letting Ottawa off the hook or potentially it blowing up in our face. Unless we acquired Helley for Holl people were always going to be insanely pissed.

The context is very different though - with Mrazek, it was Dubas acknowledging he made a mistake and rectifying it.

If in 12 months, Dubas has to do the same with Murray, it's Dubas acknowledging that he doesn't learn from his mistakes.
12 months from now? I hope its way less than that and a new GM is talking about what hes looking for going into Free Agent Frenzy

on the bright side, you all got what you wanted.

the doomsday clock just started ticking, if murray shits the bed and the team is outside of a play off position in december he most likely gets relieved by january. On the other hand. if this does work and murray regains his Pittsburgh form and manages to get this team out of the first round . most likely means dubas gets re upped
If they haven't gotten rid of Kyle by now, they're not going to do it just because of another absolutely stupid decision.

There's a case to be made that Murray was actually better last season than Campbell.
Until he got injured in his second to last start, he was riding a .920 sv %. Gave up 13 on 53 in his last 2, games, ending at .906.

But a ton of risk as your "backup" will need to play over 50 games if the past 3 season's injury woes continue.

I don’t hate Kyle Dubas, I don’t even dislike him. I like him more than all the others in the past but as every season goes by I seem to be losing more faith in him. This can all work out and I’ll look like a fool.

I just don’t understand how others around him didn’t tell him this is not a good move. I also want you hear his pitch to Shanny and others as why this is good and how he will continue to improve the team. Maybe he had other deals in the work I dunno but right now I’m speechless.

Same people who didn't watch Mrazek, Nik Foligno, Nick Ritchie, Wayne Simmonds with other teams

They value relationship and familirarity. Murray played for Keefe and Dubas so oviously they think this is 2011 and somehow get the band back together

Campbell a former Soo is being replaced by another former Soo

People still don't get it.

This trade isn't about murray being better than mraz. This trade f***ing sucks because we had all the leverage and we got absolutely hosed on the return.

You can't f***ing lose this badly on a trade when you're the only one who wants matt murray.

It's like arguing that buying a house that ONLY you wanted and the sellers HAD TO sell because of money problems for 500K over asking is a good deal because the house may be worth more next year or that the house is better than what you currently had.

See how stupid that is? If not ...... I feel for yall.

Chances are, Leafs might play Lightning again in the first round next year - does Dubas really expect Murray to be better than Campbell against Vasi?

At least the Soo fraternity is back together again for movie night Fridays! :sarcasm:

I don't care how good Dubas thinks Murray is.

Ottawa was ready to deal #7 overall to get rid of him and Dubas couldn't get him at 50% retention?

There was only 1 team interested in Murray. There was only 1 team Murray wants to go to. If you can't trade for him, then wait for the buyout and get him for cheaper.

Come on!

Truly insane how badly Dubas did here. It's completely inexcusable.

You want to take the risk for Murray? Fine. At least make the Senators hurt a bit. Not like they had any other options to get that salary off their books.

Are we pretending Campbell did well? He had a sub .900 sv%

Great so Freddy and Jack weren't good enough. Solution is bring in a worse goalie than both of them? Fantastic.

I really don't like the risk as anything more than a backup or 1B situation, so this is disappointing. I'm willing to give him a chance before I freak out, and hopefully he proves us all wrong.

Ceiling is higher but why would you compare him to Mrazek? compare to Mrazek there are 40 other goalies who's celing is higher

We didn't need to make this trade, that's what upsetting. Dubas could have easily waited out until Ottawa bought him off and then sign him for significantly less

3rd and 7th means nothing to us. We are not rebuilding. We were in control, yet he gets bent over by Ottawa
Funny you say picks mean nothing with all the wailing during the draft about the lack of picks.
