The problem is we don't have enough cap space to get another guy like Samsonov. We are pretty much hoping for a guy like Comrie is willing to come here cheap enough, or we are running with a tandem without the kind of upside.

If the return was this light and 50% was attached, well it would be light but at least makes sense if you really believed in Murray. But this is not really good on either front. It is light on return and retention.

It is not Foligno bad, but Dubas has made more rookie moves in Years 3 and 4 than he did before that.
We need to move out salary to acquire a reliable tandem goaltender. We can still move Kerfoot and/or Holl.

So after thinking about this for 45 minutes, the only positive I can think of if this gamble doesn't work out is Murray is such a bandaid he probably already owns property on Robidas Island. You could disappear his money on LTIR.
The problem isn't that the risk is too great. It's that the risk should have been a lot less, as his salary should have been retained by 50% and the compensation for the risk should have been much higher.

And that's if you even think Murray was the guy to get, which I don't agree with

Lol. If Dorion can now get Giroux because of this newfound cap-space I'm going to lose it.

divisional rival to boot. How THICK in the skull does one has to be...

As one of the biggest dubas critic on here even I am stunned by the sheer incompetence

Just when you think dubas couldn't be any dumber he rises to the occasion

You love to see it.

They have a pretty easy and predictable argument too. "He won't a couple of cups guyzzz!!1!"

I don't like the move, but you all complain about our player's stats in the playoffs and then say that's not a legit argument...

hopefully they go get Blackwood Thunder Bay will be represented well, just scared what Dubas will give up...

Blackwood didn't play for Soo

Went to watch Thor, come out to find out about this
Why didn't he just wait for Murray to get bought out? then maybe sign him for $2.5 million?

It's possible that Murray can totally turn this around, but nothing suggest he will though

Why did we bail out Ottawa?

Meh. I really don't think it's bad. Again, I don't think it's good and I wish we got more (or more retention), but in no way do I see this as a negative today. It could go wrong with injuries or Murray can go back to losing all his confidence, but we got paid to take on a potential #1.

I also think we can still afford a Samsonov pretty easily as we have plenty of movable cap in Kerfoot & Muzzin.

Easily!

Has concussion history.

Heck they could put him on LTIR now, and keep the picks as soon as he fails the physical.

If Murray comes in and starts winning folks will stop caring pretty quickly. He's got the ability to, and has obviously passed the medical exam, so we as fans can only do so.

I think folks also forgotten how bad Leafs goaltending was for the entirety of 2022 so far too - Jack had a very underwhelming second half
Absolutely.

Toronto boy, let's welcome him.

I'm sure if Murray gets a whiff of this disappointment from the fan base, he use's that as motivation.

So we now have Murray instead of Mrazek, but gained something pickwise (gave up 25th overall pick in return for 38th pick plus a 3rd and a 7th).

Neither goalie is a sure thing but it seems clear that Murray's ceiling is way higher than Mrazek's and we got some picks to boot. Paying a bit more for Murray but not much more so no big deal there. It also seems reasonable to give our staff credit for having done their due diligence when it comes to Murray's health so all things considered, at the very least we're in better shape than we were going into the draft.

Pretty funny to see how so many people are losing their minds over this one.

Cheers everyone. :)

This deal is super risky and they have to be banking on his big game experience.

His timeline reads as tons of early success at the start, then hits a rough middle with some family tragedy and injuries. We have to hope we're now aquiring him on the way back up as he was better last season and he's very familiar with one of our goalie coachs.

On paper the value of the trade looks bad but I have some weird feeling Murray is going to be great for us.

so we trade Mzarek to what amounts to giving up a high 2nd or a low 2nd/3rd

Buff had a deal to flip picks with the same retention which would be like getting 2 x 2nds if they could even find a team willing to trade down at that point in the first rd

and all we get is a 3rd and a 7th to take on a guy who hasn't played worth a shit in like 4 yrs ?

when i first heard the rumor of this trade i thought it was a joke and that there's no way Dubas could be this big an idiot

sadly i underestimated him

Oh agreed on all counts. Dubas shouldn't have been speaking to Dorion in the first place, since helping Ottawa escape Murray jail will directly hurt the Leafs on the UFA market alone, let alone being a bad goalie choice, secondly, he had Dorion over barrel... and third... rest is history.

They’ll make us regret it.
Ceci fit right in
So did hyman

Both got rid of their choker tags and Hyman even had a solid playoffs for once
Hyman its not now he will hurt but when he will have 33 34 35 the game style he play...thats will hurt. A very good candidacte to become the next brendan Gallagher...

Ceci was just not kind of d leafs needed but atill a 3rd pair dman

Been a Dubas supporter for a long time now. However, right now, im kinda wishing Shanny would take Dubas outside, around the corner, and beat the living f*** out of him. This screams of desperation and i can honestly see some of our star players walking away when their contracts are done because of crap like this. Absolute stupidity.
