Knies for Stramel and Jiricek

Why for Toronto - Toronto gets a RHD prospect with great potential and Stramel who has been doing well this year in NCAA. Knies is also RFA, so Toronto might struggle finding cap space. Maybe better to get some prospect and hopefully use the cap space to sign Bennett in the summer.

Why for Minnesota - Knies is on-pace for 30 goals this year and he has paid well in the playoffs, could be the difference maker in a playoff seris.

Hell no from Minnesota's perspective.

no from the Leafs, we're going to sign Knies to a bridge deal.

If we hadn't given up so much for Jiricek and how he looks potentially, I'd consider it.
Knies is so intriguing and has a big body! BGs prototype

Knies is untouchable. We're not trading him. Especially for magic beans like the OP. Leafs have been looking for a Knies for at least 15 years. Probably since Gary Roberts left.

Sweet! Just in time for him to get paid!

I'm not crazy about Stramel but I don't love the idea of trading him plus a guy we just traded a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th for a guy we have to sign to a new contract. Knies isn't worth the equivalent of what is a minimum of two 1sts in value.

22 year old 30G and 50Pts (projected) powerforward with RFA status? That is the exact value equivalent of two 1sts and it still wouldn’t be enough to convince the Leafs to trade him.

Knies will prove to be Toronto’s best playoff performer, as early as this post season. They can’t afford to move him. He’s a unicorn in their locker room.

I love Hyman. Works his ass off and best forechecker in the league.

He isn't Knies. They play different. Knies is heavier.

We talking literal weight? Because Hyman isn't that much lighter than Roberts lol.

Side note: Remember at the start of the season when you were suggesting the Leafs lock Knies in to 8 x $4M and said Knies would be smart to do it because he only had one season of play and it was guaranteed money?

I would argue he has already proven that. He's been in essentially 2 playoff series with us (not counting the Panthers he got cheapshot and was out). In the Tampa series I think he was on the ice for every single game winning goal or tying goal (if not all, most it's been a few years).

Against Boston, he had a few clutch moments including keeping us alive

No I am talking playing heavy. Knies is already one of the strongest players in the league at 22. Hyman wasn't, he had to work his ass off to get to the point guys were bouncing off of him.

Knies at 22 is bouncing guys off of him all over the ice. He's driving the net and no one can stop him. he's in those greasy areas all the time. Just a complete playoff type warrior player. A modern power forward.

Fair enough on playing heavy.

Thank God he didn't sign a $4M/year contract. Would've missed out on probably $20-25M over the next 8 years.

I was hoping the Leafs would get him on a steal before he proved it. Sadly the front office continues to sit on their hands and wait until players have the leverage to decide to negotiate.

It's almost like a 22 year old who wasn't proven yet would be stupid to sign an 8 year contract at a low number...

... Which is what you were told then.

Never stops other players around the league... For example Draistl signed 8.5 x 8 at 21, Jack Huges 8x8 at 20, Brock Faber at 22, the list goes on.

I wanted the Leafs to do the same thing

Why do you continue to cite $8M+/year contracts to compare to your suggestion that Knies sign for $4M/year?

These situations are not remotely similar...
