Douglas has spent the 2021-22 season with the Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.
He will be an NHL player its just a matter of when. His skating is steadily improving. He’s a big boy. 6’8. As for his chances to be in the NHL long term, it probably won’t happen. He’ll be someone who gets spot duty.
Then again it’s Toronto so they may need him to be in the NHL full time just so they can ice 4 lines.
Contract doesn't kick on until next year, so if they want to sign someone for this year, this doesn't count against the limitInteresting timing. Leafs had only two contract spaces. Now they have one, with the possibility of signing Kniess, Abruzzese. and undrafted NCAA graduates. Surprised that they did not wait until after this season, but they must have had their reasons.
Thanks. I missed that. Now it makes a lot more sense. (I also looked up his stats; looks like a typical Dubas signing - 6'8'', 249 lbs., good with "his hands".)Contract doesn't kick on until next year, so if they want to sign someone for this year, this doesn't count against the limit
The still have 2Interesting timing. Leafs had only two contract spaces. Now they have one, with the possibility of signing Kniess, Abruzzese. and undrafted NCAA graduates. Surprised that they did not wait until after this season, but they must have had their reasons.
Contract spots won't hinder any GM from doing what they want. A contract could still be traded if neededInteresting timing. Leafs had only two contract spaces. One thing Leafs do well is find free wallet guys. Barabanov, Bunting, Marchment, Trevor Moore, etc all in the last few years
The list also seems to be slightly cherrypickedAnother thing they don’t do well is retain them as only Bunting remains on the team as we speak.
Giving up Marchment was bad. I get his trajectory wasn’t high but he was traded for a player with similar trajectory who if both panned out wouldn’t have a spot on the lineup due to players ahead being better. The obvious decision there would of been to keep the player who would fit a need if both panned out. Worst part is, Marchment panned out and Malgin didn’t.
