I think this should be interesting to hear who you all think are the top 3 CBJ players right now.

I'll go with Bob, I think that's one we all will agree on.

Now it gets hard, I like 5 other guys for the other 2 spots.

I'm going to go with Horton, on and off the ice, it can't be coincidence that we're 9-1 since he joined the team.

And lastly, Johnson, again he is clearly playing at a different level these last 10 games.

Good thread...

Bob is first for almost everyone so I'll skip him...

1. Johansen without a doubt is #1, the kid reminds me of Rick Nash but a tad thinner but quicker and more engaged every game, every shift.

2. Second I pick Foligno, engaged every shift, smart, experienced, and a born leader...

3. Third, Ryan Murray... Strange pick I know but put things in perspective, he's a 20 year old rookie and we comment on his play as if he was a veteran... and let’s not forget how long it takes for NHL defenseman to develop...

Oh, Horton is in the mix but 10 games is not enough imo to rank yet.

I like how damn tough that question is for me right now.

I find myself thinking I can't leave either Bob or Johansen out. That third spot is killing me.

I am going to assume, by right now, you mean recently (the streak).

1. Johnson
2. Wiz
3. Bob

Honorable mentions - Letestu and Horton

Letestu and Atkinson are tied for the team lead in goals in our 9-1 steak (5), while Wiz leads the team in scoring. Murray actually has 8 points in those 10 games.

Looks like Savard is our only minus player during the stretch, outside of Craig who doesn't count.

Helps your streak when you have 4 guys, in the last 10 games, putting up a 30+ goal pace.

If you are talking about best players for the year I'd go with.

1. Johansen
2. Wiz
3. Dubinsky

If you are talking about pure skill.

1. Horton
2. Johansen
3. Murray

w/ Bob in the mix

I won't range them. I like the team as a whole. It's like ranking a parts of your beloved car. What is better, your engine, steering system or your wheels?
Everything is working fine, thank you.

I understand that point of view, and its also noteworthy that we have 7 different guys mentioned after just 4 responses.

lol.... isn't that what it takes to have a playoff team... ;)

As Blah has sort of said in my interpretation the 13th season Blue Jackets have gone from one of the worst teams in the NHL to one of the best...

But overall, we do have many players evolving in a great way... some young, some old; I like the current mix, these boys want to win.

Man this is hard, but if I had to choose solely on a whim I'd go with:

1. Wisniewski, without him our PP wouldn't be where it is today.
2. Bobrovsky, haven't needed him to be huge lately but always nice to know you have a wall in net, added sense of security for sure, helps the guys play with more confidence it appears.
3. Murray, can't remember many defensemen being this great at 20 years old. Firm belief that he is going to be the best defenseman this franchise has ever seen, and perhaps will ever see.

Honorable Mentions: Johnson, Dubinsky, the entire Horton/Anisimov/Jenner line.

Savard is even. If you watched the game you should have noticed that he wasn't on the ice when Philly scored, but nhl.com decided that his and Nikitin's sitting on the bench at the moment deserves -1. And he's +3 in the last 12 games.

I'm not picking on you J4L but how can you ignor Johansen... a 21 year old center who leads the team with 19 goals, 18 assists and 37 points...

Well, he would be on my team any day.

I have now idea why would someone give honorable mention to entire Anisimov line and completely ignore Joey's line. That's why I didn't even try.

Like I said, it's hard to pick just a few guys, every single player we have is important to the team's success right now, there are no passengers. I did my best to pick the players that have stood out to me most over the most recent stretch of games. Certainly I wasn't trying to slight Johansen.

I think top-3 is a bit difficult without some lead up context, so here's my top-5:

5. Brandon Dubinsky - A warrior and the leader amongst the forwards, Dubinsky plays with passion as well as some skill. He has been clutch this season and as such is in the top-5. Without Dubinsky's tenacity and emotion, it's very possible the Jackets never learn as a team to bounce back after being down a goal.

4. Ryan Murray - Our youngest defenseman could perhaps find himself as being our best defenseman by the end of the year. Murray doesn't make the same mistake twice and is learning the game at light speed. Without Murray, the future of the young Jackets team would not nearly be as bright as it is now.

3. Jack Johnson - Currently our top defenseman. Plays the most minutes, the hardest minutes, and is an obvious leader in the locker room. His first half of the season wasn't great but he's bounced back in a major way. Johnson represents accountability -- a star player who was enthusiastic about coming here, perhaps a first for the franchise, and paved the way for guys like Horton to come in and embrace the city.

2. Sergei Bobrovsky - Our top goaltender, Vezina winner, #1 cop on the force. Bob keeps us in games that honestly shouldn't be close. He hasn't been as good as he was last year, but his play has been strong enough to be a major bolster to the team. Without Bobrovsky's hot streak last year and play this year, it's likely the Jackets don't become the competitive team that they are today.

1. Ryan Johansen - Ryan is our best forward offensively. He's our best forward defensively. He shuts down the opposition's top lines. He is leading the team in points. And he's only 21. The Jackets have never seen a player break out like Joey has this season and it's honestly a treat. He has a very bright future ahead of him and because of Johansen's play, it is likely the Jackets do too.

Note - I haven't included either Horton or Gaborik yet due to their relatively short windows of play this season.

1. Horton, not even close. Since this guy has been in the lineup the Jackets have caught fire.

2. Bob, don't overlook his stats

3.Johansen, living up to the billing he had when the Jackets got him

I'd say the 3 most valuable of late are:

Johansen, Bobrovsky, and Wizniewski, with Dubinsky a close 4th.

I, too, am leaving Bob out of this since the goalie position is always of top importance.

1. Johan. Why? Dude has become a beast. Leading scorer, and dangerous with the puck every time he touches it. Nuff said.

2. Dubinsky. Why? Other than some bad penalties here and there he is the heart and soul of the team, and as a bonus, he is back to putting up good numbers, and is scoring clutch goals. Maybe not game winners, but goals when they need them. Brings it every night.

3. Horton. Why? Even not at 100% Horton's addition finally gave the CBJ 3 legitimate scoring lines. Unlike adding a grinder, Horton instantly gave other teams another guy to worry about in the Jackets line-up. Even while still getting his hands and legs back, and learning to play with his new teammates, he has been dangerous, and is contributing goals.

Honorable mention. Calvert. Why? IMHO, Calvert is arguably the teams best forechecker, and when he is on the ice, he makes Dubinsky and Atkinson better players. It was his play that led to the Duby goal last night, and he got one of his own being in the right place.

Honorable, honorable mention. DMac Why? The Jackets have put together one of the best 4th lines in the league. It doesn't seem to matter who they throw out there, they play hard and at times dominate opposing teams 4th lines. DMac is the anchor of that line, and the guy has a bit of a scoring touch to boot.

*Edit*

I know I left the D-men off that list, but to me, right now, the story of the team is the new found offense. The D has been pretty good for a while, but the offense is the story of the season so far.

The fact that is is so difficult to pick three is why we have become such a dangerous TEAM.

My .02.... right now I would say...

1) Joey - A stud and a beast on the puck.
2) Bob - The team seems extemely confident with him in net.
3) Murray - Only 20 years old. Are you kidding?

Horton, the Captain Next year, was hard to leave off.

Thats what I suspected when I started the thread. I think some of you guys are crazy with your picks, but you can honestly make a case for 5-8 guys, and I'm sure my picks are equally bogus to others.

Bob has been the common favorite though. No surprise there.

1. Bob - Stats are ridiculous since coming back. We can play a mediocre game and still win because of him.
2. Ryan Johansen - On a tear. Carried the team with all the injuries before the new year.
3. Jack Johnson - He has been an absolute beast lately on both ends since the USA announcement.

Honorable Mentions:
Wiz, Horton (Will crack my top 3 soon), Dubinsky

Murray isn't in my top 8 right now. Still raw, but is showing more and more promise every game. Everyone is qualifying him as being "great for his age" and "could be our best d-man." He's not a top 3 player on this team, plain and simple. Not to say I'm not impressed, though. He'll be there soon.

For me it's

1.Johansen
2.Bobrovsky
3.Wisniewski
4.Dubinsky

And then I think there's a definite dropoff before you get to Horton, Foligno, Arty, and on the defence side Johnson, Murray, and Nikitin. On the defence Wiz is still far and away the biggest offensive threat. If you're Johnson or Murray you're best chance at picking up an assist is by giving it to Wiz and let him create something. "James the Creator."

Horton has been good at sniping but hasn't been as effective in the complete game the way Dubinsky has. He's definitely deepened our lineup and made us a better team but you subtract Dubinsky and I think it has a bigger effect.
