What moves/trades/signings/drafts got you very excited at the moment it was announced in the past 10 years?

Here are mine

#1 The Kovalev trade: I still remember how high I jumped when it was announced. We havent had a skilled player like him in years even though he wasnt doing well in NY back then.

#2 The Galchenyuk draft: I litterally had my heart running at 200 rpm and hold my breath twice, first when the Jackets turn came hoping they don't screw us and 2nd when our turn came and jumped in joy when we picked him.

#3 The Tanguay trade: I thought it was a very good trade for us back then. We finished first the year before and we added Tanguay and Lang, I really thought this was going to be our year.

What's your top 3?

Kordic for Courtnall, Russ was awesome with the Leafs and the Habs.

Kovalev trade, loved it, wish he never went to the Sens but I am glad he is gone now, he sucked with Florida the other night.

Galchenyuk pick, highest pick I have ever seen the Habs make, and what a player!

Drafting PK Subban - I told everybody at work the next day to keep an eye on this kid, that he would be special.

Drafting Alex Galchenyuk - I loved his attitude pre-draft, talent was obvious, but attitude makes the difference.

Firing Gauthier.

The 1984 entry draft... Habs had those high picks, and I had a flock of OHL players I really liked and wanted to become Habs (Shawn Burr, Shayne Corson, Gary Roberts, Kirk Muller - but didn't expect to get him, of course). The Svoboda thing was nuts. And there was the Mario theme over it all. But at least we got Corson. I didn't follow the Wickenheiser draft and don't think it was publicized quite the same way, that probably would have been a big thing if it was.

The Roy debacle. In a bad way. Exciting all the same.

Maybe the Turgeon trades, at both ends, also generated a lot of excitment... negative again for me, but still a lot to talk about.

Off the top of my head. There have been so many, though. :(

1. Turgeon trade (when we acquired his services)
2. Recchi (when we acquired his services. At that time Leclair wasn't so good with Habs while Recchi was a star)
3. Kovalev

1. Gorges and a 1st (Pacioretty) for Rivet.
2. NHL Entry draft 2012.
3. Prust and the Gallys (the decision to make them a line, the decision to keep the Gallys up and the decision to sign Prust, all combined into one).

1) Drafting Galchenyuk. Especially after that ridiculous Teravainen rumor that day that terrified us all. FINALLY a #1 C in the fold. A year of sucking that was well worth it. Seeing the pure joy from he and his family about being picked by us and how perfect he looked in the red, white and blue on that podium was just icing on the cake. Also felt so good to rub it in the face of all those cocky Laffs fans who were so convinced he would fall to them and we would draft Grigorenko ''because he's used to living in Quebec!'' and all the other nonsense they were spouting.

2) Getting the Max Pac pick and Gorges for Rivet. Could not believe we got a 1st rounder and, at the time, a decent young defenceman for an aging Rivet who was about to hit UFA.

3) This one may seem odd, but acquiring Sundin's rights for a few days at the 2008 draft. Dreaming that he was the missing piece. I still think 2008-09 turns out much differently if he had signed and been there from day 1.

Lots of moves have got me excited in the last 10 years. Not usually in a great way.

The only moves that I can say truly gave me hope and optimism and made me think that brighter days were ahead

1) The hiring of Bob Gainey
2) The firing of Bob Gainey

Reading the replies, there seem to be a lot liars on here. Or at least let's call them "retrofitters".

Guaranteed half the Habs fanbase was in tears (of pride and joy) when Louis Leblanc was picked at the Bell Center.

The Rivet trade? Give me a break. Sure many of us thought it was great, including me, but a Top 3 moment in all of the history we have witnessed????

at the time I actually wanted Kreider more.. not that he's anything special either.

At the time the Rivet trade was just a meh from me, but it turned out well.

Yeah the Turgeon trade was one, but it happened more than 10 years ago. I remember back then being VERY excited we got Turgeon, but completely devastated we lost Schneider and Muller.

lol. Personnally I was not really excited when we drafter Leblanc, I was happy but not excited because I expected us to draft him. And for the Rivet trade, I was actually sad he left, Saku, Rivet and Souray were actually my favorite leaders since we won the cup.

1. Mike Cammalleri signing - Never have I been so excited for a signing before. He was coming off of that incredible season with Calgary and I thought for sure we had an elite level sniper on our hands.

2. Alex Galchenyuk draft - I remember when I first watched him play in his rookie season, I was blown away by how incredibly talented he was. I started watching Sarnia every chance I got just so I could see Galchenyuk and Yakupov play. I've never wanted the Habs to draft a player so much before, you can only imagine my reaction when Timmins said his name on draft day.

3. Alex Kovalev trade - Admittedly, I barely followed the NHL at the time and I was just becoming a fan, but I knew who Kovalev was. I was so excited that we finally got an elite level talent, it made me start following the NHL more.

1. Galchenyuk pick.
2. Halak trade. Not because I didn't like him but I loved the vote of confidence for Price.
3. Getting a 1st for Rivet. Didn't care for Gorges at the time...I sure feel differently about him now.
