I think this works fairly well as a gauge for when certain players are called "clutch". A lot of names pop up that you'd expect.

Interesting results. Thank you for your contribution.

How clutch of a playoff performer can one be considered, when one trails players such as Joel Ward, Nick Bonino, Matt Cooke & Scott Gomez in this statistic?

I'll always associate Ward with being clutch. I also always think of Gomez as a playoff performer from those Elias-Gomez-Gionta Devils days. I always think of Talbot as that kind of guy from the Pens who wasn't the best player but would step up at big times, but realistically that's just because of Game 7 in 2009.

No Joe Nieuwendyk?
  1. April 25, 1999 - go-ahead goal (ultimately, the GWG) at 12:32 of the 3rd period
  2. April 27, 1999 - triple OT series-winning goal
  3. May 8, 1999 - OT winner
  4. May 24, 1999 - go-ahead go (ultimately, the GWG) at 11:52 of the 3rd period
  5. June 12, 1999 - go-ahead go (ultimately, the GWG) at 9:35 of the 3rd period
  6. May 23, 2000 - OT winner
  7. April 21, 2001 - go-ahead go (ultimately, the GWG) at 17:07 of the 3rd period
  8. May 21, 2003 - tied the game at 2:41 of this period (no other goals scored in regular, lost in OT)
EDIT - surprised to see Mario Lemieux isn't on the list at all.

Good catch. The way I did it was copy and paste all the multi-goal scorers from go ahead and all the multi-goal scorers from tying goals, then scroll down and look up individually if a guy was only in one category, which Niewendyk was. Ciccarelli was like that with 6+1. Must have missed him, he does indeed have 8.

Lemieux had 5.

Agreed - Lemieux had 5. I meant I was surprised he didn't have more. But after taking a look, it appears most of his "game winning goals" were in the 1st/2nd periods.

Where is Draisaitl? He has lots of OT winners...

Really cool to see Jagr so high on the list. I think that should count for those who try and dismiss his playoffs a bit too quickly. No he didn't have any real 'conn smythe worthy runs' during his prime, but he still always produced consistently. And apparently - contributed many timely goals and assist too

Gaborik is still an active player? Learn something new everyday.

Gaborik is still under contract until July 2021, but hasn't played since 2017-2018.

Same thing with Dubinsky who hasn't played since 2018-2019.

I'm not sure I understand the premise.

Doesn't Jagr have at least 15 or 16 OT goals in his career? Doesn't Ovechkin have at least 15?

Are only five-on-five goals counted here?

So players that played in the most playoff games will likely look best? Stats should be on a per game basis to have any comparative meaning.

I'd love to see a per game stat, or a regular season version. Plenty of clutch players that didn't get to play on perennial powerhouses.

Brett Hull is great, no surprises there

I think it might be handy to include games played or something like that
(e.g. maybe this favours people on worse teams because they're more likely to be down in the third or go to OT)
