If I had to do my top 5 NHL Games in no particular order:

NHL Legacy Edition - the last great GM mode of that era. Everything else afterwords is inconsistent.

NHL 14 - Need I say more? The perfect NHL game. Nostalgic factor is included because I used to watch different NHL youtubers and watch their BAP/BAGM series over and over.

NHL 2004 (PS2) - probably the GOAT of 'Dynasty Mode'. The fact that you could customize your office and manipulate the potential rating was unreal. There was nothing else like it at the time

NHL Faceoff 2001 (PS1) - I don't know if there are many 'retro' gamers here, but Faceoff actually played like a true NHL game back in the day. I did not like the 'arcade' style of EA.

NHL Championship 2000 (PS1) - Such an underrated title. The replay-ability of this is unreal to me. Although graphically it isn't the best compared to it's cousin titles, (EA/2K), the game play is outstanding. I still have yet to see the opponent cycle and dump on the fly quite like this game. The FoxTrax puck is a special bonus

NHL 04 should be in everyones top 3. Game was amazing!!

09 where everything changed and the skill stick was introduced along with Be A Pro
05 was imo the worst in that lockout

Hmm...let's see
1. NHL 05 - got a new PC in autumn of 2003. and for some reason NHL '04 didn't want to start so I waited until '05 and played it a lot.
2. NHL 04 - 2nd place just because I spent less time on it, but overall my favourite NHL game
3. NHL 96 - first NHL I played. My mom bought original copy for me, that day was parade in Zagreb as our handball team returned from Atlanta with Gold medal
4. NHL 99 - best "old", pre-00, NHL game
5. NHL 01 (PS1) - nothing too special about it, but ton of playing hours with my friends
6. NHL 02 - first true next-gen (PS2) NHL. Collecting hockey cards was cool feature to have
7. NHL 19 - just because my local team that played in EBEL was in the game
8. NHL 22 - still haven't played it yet, but IIHF license (it took just 30 years to get it) is good enough reason to put it on the list

And that's it. PS3/360 NHL's was limited experience for me (skipped almost whole generation) so it wouldn't be fair to put them onto the list.

As of NHL 14 and further, I only play EASHL now. So that's the only thing im judging.

I'm sorry, I don't play HUT but I still don't understand the appeal of the game mode even after being implemented for 10+ years

It was the first time we all got to play it and it’s when it was at its most pure IMO. Cards had careers to them, there were contract cards, attribute boosts, and way less fluff. It was the most fun in that first year

Couldn't agree more. I use to love boosting my prospects up to high 90's (young players could apply more boosts cards to them) and then slapping an 80 contract card on them and they'd stay at the overall the whole time. it was pretty sweet.

And making pucks/coins/whatever was easier then too. 2500 Mini Packs were a godsend

yup, those were the good ol days when packs would be as cheap at .79 cents

NHL 98 PS1 version- I hope one day they find a way to mod this game. I love this hockey game.
