With the Stanley Cup now awarded, it's time to take a look at the last time a team has won the Stanley Cup.

Top 10 Teams: Longest Stanley Cup Championship Drought

Toronto1967
BuffaloNever (franchise existed since 1970-1971 season)
VancouverNever (franchise existed since 1970-1971 season)
Philadelphia1975
ArizonaNever (franchise existed since 1979-1980 season)
NY Islanders1983
Calgary1989
Edmonton1990
San JoseNever (franchise existed since 1991-1992 season)
OttawaNever (franchise existed since 1992-1993 season)

Guffman Analysis

Of the 10 teams with the longest drought, only three of them made the playoffs this past season, none advancing past the second round. Half the teams on the list have never won a Stanley Cup despite existing for decades. Half of the teams are also from Canada.

The longest drought belongs to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who last won before Man allegedly walked on the moon (back when the league was a 6-team circuit).

For next season, Guffman predicts that only Edmonton or Toronto can remove themselves from this list. Buffalo and Ottawa may start challenging soon with their rejuvenated rosters.

With Buffalo's plethora of talent, I think they have the best shot in the next 5-10 years, with Edmonton right behind (smaller window, 2-3 years).

This list tells me that if Toronto finally breaks its drought in the next few years, we don't have to be upset, because we can just add the "longest drought" message to the "no cups" messaging that we use on the...deserving...Canuck fans.

Sens are close to a 100 year drought if you count their 1927 cup win.

Take out their almost 60 years leave and it's 7 years (1927-34) + their current 30 year drought

I'd also like to postulate that the 1967 Stanley Cup Finals were also a hoax, that Stanley Kubrick staged it at Maple Leaf Gardens. In fact, the Maple Leafs never existed at all.

I’ve never met anyone who has actually been to a Maple Leafs game. Coincidentally they all just happen to be on TV. Weird, right?
