I don't know if this has been posted yet but here it is. Bitetto in the next game
New York Rangers
Tony DeAngelo was placed on waivers Sunday and did not participate in practice with the Rangers.
The defenseman signed a two-year contract on Oct. 15 after scoring a career-high 53 points (15 goals, 38 assists) in 68 games last season.
"It's something the organization decided to do," Rangers coach David Quinn said. "I get the questions and I know you want more specifics, but it's a decision we made as an organization. In 24 hours we'll probably be able to be more specific and address the situation differently."
DeAngelo has one point this season, an assist in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. He was minus-3 in that game and has a minus-6 rating in six games this season.
DeAngelo, who was a healthy scratch in a 5-0 win against the New York Islanders on Jan. 16, can be claimed by another team or clear waivers at noon ET Monday. If he clears, he can remain on the active roster, be assigned to the taxi squad and be sent to Hartford of the American Hockey League.
"A lot of things have surprised me this year good and bad," Quinn said. "We've got a handful of guys that maybe aren't playing to the level they played to last year and you could probably say Tony would be one of them, but he's not the only one."
Defenseman
Anthony Bitetto will make his Rangers debut when they play the Penguins at Madison Square Garden on Monday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, MSG+, ATTSN-PT, NHL.TV).
The Rangers also announced that forward
Colin Blackwell will miss 7-10 days with an upper-body injury he sustained in the first period Saturday, and defenseman
Jack Johnson is day to day with a lower-body injury. Goalie
Alexandar Georgiev (maintenance) didn't practice.
