Heard he went off Twitter. I don't have an issue with his beliefs. Social media habits are built when these kids are kids, so some habits are bad to break. But now that Tony's making some real cheese, I think he's starting to get it. Smart move deleting Twitter. Stick to the interviews. Facetime. TV time. That's what star power gets you if you earn it.
I got a lot of love for Tony. If I were him I'd look at how the Hunters handle their pressers up in London. Stick to the messaging. Know your audience. Stick to the messaging (it's this Tony, not f***ing Twitter). MSG started doing a really good job with player interviews last year, and Tony's performance earned him some appearances. I think the next step for Tony is to realize that his play can do more of the talking. You've got YouTube, Canadian National TV. Post-game follow-up content. A lot of the things Tony was doing is for retirees. Post playing career guys, or people who are or use social for their occupational needs.
When you're an active hockey player, you have certain inherent benefits that you can earn by good play on the ice. There's enough skill, will and toughness in Tony. He needs to focus more on earning mixtapes and highlight reels. Guys that get walked twice a game show up on the wrong side of the tape. Between the fights and offensive output there's some good on ice content. Every elite player has multiple mixtapes of their highlights.
