He had been suffering for years. Guy was a legend but he is no longer suffering. Two weeks shy of 97 and suffering from Alzheimer’s. Sad he’s passed but he’s absolutely in a better place.
Let's not drop to our knees, now.
He was a karaoke singer without the voice or charisma of Sinatra or Presley. A prototypical Michael Buble.
It's an incredible phenomenon how something that would logically seem connected are actually compartmentalized differently... The singer of my favorite local music group has a pretty significant stammer in normal conversation, but when he gets on stage he can rap the entire set, and even riff between songs with no problem. His wife said even once Tony forgot names, he never forgot songs. Something about the musical part of the brain hardwiring melodies and rhythms even once other memories go. Tony lived a long life before the first symptoms of Alzheimers began appearing around 90, but he continued singing without missing a beat... literally.... until he was 95.
Amazing career and one of the last threads connecting us to a magical era of music. RIP.
