2 more years left after this season at 4 million dollar cap hit. He has some term but that can also be a negative since 4 million is a good amount of money for someone pegged to most likely play in our bottom 6.

What is a realistic ask for him if he is available. Please don't ask for a 1st round pick as we don't have one in 2025. We would have to send a player back in return like Tatar or Lazar to make this work. One of them can be flipped at the deadline for a 3rd to 6rh round pick to add some value to the deal.

I am confused by the multiple threads.

But to be honest, a "Fair Ask" to Barry Trotz right now is: give us anything before we put him on waivers. Like the 2027 4th round pick for Tomasino or Parssinen. The Preds don't want Novak anymore. But he also has a much higher contract commit than those others did. So he's possibly at "negative value" now.

Which is ridiculous, because he's actually a good player. But that's the Preds right now under Trotz. You can have him for free, probably.

I don't know the Devils needs, but I'd be surprised if any playoff team really would value Novak that highly. He's a skilled player, he darts around and makes plays and has offensive skills. But he's "light" and provides nothing on the defensive or physical ends. He's an offense-only player. The points he put up before this season are the ones to look at. He can get 0.5-0.75 ppg if you throw him into those situations. But that's all he gives you. This season is a writeoff because Brunette is actively stifling and killing Novak's chances. But usually playoff teams aren't looking for that kind of "soft" #2/3C type of production? It's not a "playoff friendly" style of play. Novak to me seems more like the kind of player who flourishes as #2C on a rebuilding team... not a team trying to win in the playoffs? :dunno:

Mods shit this thread down. I wasn't aware he was one dimensional. We could use the offense but still.

Delete my thread please.
