With Hertl appearing to be not be content with the current status of the sharks, I am guessing that GMMG is going to start listening to some offers in relation. With the Burns and EK retention still on the books, I doubt the sharks would be retaining. We will definitely be able to take some salary back to make it work and maximize value. Looking around the league, there are definitely some partners that make sense, including the Canucks, and Bruins.

To the Canucks:
Tomas Hertl
Matt Benning

To the Sharks:
Hunter Brzustewicz
Andrei Kuzmenko
2025 First Rounder (Top 10 Protected)
2024 Second Rounder
Ian Cole

Who is adding?

Done. No take backs.
Kind of in the same boat here. I like Brz a lot. Kuzmenko is pretty good too and Cole is whatever. Obviously picks are always nice. I’d like one of the cap dumps to be a C but we can deal with that later.

Not sure why VAN would do this though. Not that it’s a bad price for Hertl but I don’t know. It doesn’t feel like a move VAN would make.

The prospect is likely a bust. Kuzmenko is way overpaid. Cole could probably fetch a 4th or something at the deadline.

But dumping Hertl's contract in full at this stage of the rebuild and getting any sort of positive value back is a W.

Hertl is still pretty darn good. I think if we had retention slots, hertl at 6M would be positive value. The sharks are happy to take back salary, but we can't retain really due to the 3 slot limit

For sure he would but I don't think any team will retain for that long. I like Hertl a lot but we already have Miller as a 30 year-old signed until 37. This Canuck fan passes.

Hertl has previously stated that he is happy in San Jose, but would be willing to consider a move in the off season.

From a personal point of view, there are other teams where I believe his style of play would be a better fit, such as Boston.

I like the idea. The Canucks window is the next 3-4 years, given where Miller (and maybe Demko) are.

I'd add more to try to get Ferraro too.

From September...with quotes from Grier.

How is Hertl wondering about this when Grier says he checks in with him?

Brz currently has 69 points in 46 games in the CHL. Kuzmenko is paid fine away from Tocchet. This is a guy that had 74 points last year. Cole is the worst piece of the trade.

That last statement isn’t very accurate either. Do you want to just throw our young guys to the wolves and have yet another prospect ruined by development?

There was a better article from today that said they’ll revisit if he wants to stay in the offseason.

Something doesn’t add up. And why is this a story now and not after TDL?

I think if you flip the years of the picks then it would probably be a good deal. Vancouver doesn't have a 2024 2nd rounder right now since they moved it to dump Dickinson. I also see no reason to push off the 1st to 2025 when you have a 2024 and are winning like the Canucks are. I'd probably be okay with this trade but I'd need to have a better understanding of what Kuzmenko's trade value is as well because I wouldn't have much interest in keeping him around.

3rd in OHL scoring as a 19 year old d-man reads as a "likely bust"?
Yes.

Canucks are a sure bet to crater next season. You definitely want the 2025 1st and, better yet, a chance at an unprotected 2026 1st.

I've only seen a couple of SJ games this year, what kind of player exactly is Hertl these days? Can he be relied upon to play 2C in a matchup role? Is he just coasting on a bad team?

Hodge for whatever reason has spent a lot of energy in the last few days trying to convince anyone who will listen that Vancouver will have to pay out the nose to move Kuzmenko. And also their prospects are bad too I guess. Maybe Allvin stole his girl?

Easily. I’d say the way that Lindholm is viewed is how Hertl is. Low end 1C, high end 2C that is good 2 way. Hertl is a possession monster. I’d also say that his stats are worse because of the team.

change Benning to Vlasic and he's yours. Benning sucks but his contract comes off the books after next season, when we need it the most.
