I think they'll still keep a spot warm for Holtz/Clarke to claim in training camp. If both are ineffective then they can address that at the deadline. Similarly, I'd imagine Calgary is aiming for a playoff spot so they might not be eager to deal Toffoli in the offseason.

Meier-Hughes-Bratt
Palat-Hischier-Mercer
Sharangovich-Haula?-(Holtz/Clarke)
Boqvist-McLeod-Bastian
Foote-Lazar

First of all. What’s the deal with Timo?

@Xirik

He will get signed. Likely 8 years in the 8.5-9 AAV range

I would think only one of Boqvist/Sharangovich will be back next season. But otherwise I would agree this is likely what we'll see

He'll get resigned and nobody knows what the contract will be. Bratt probably has more chance of being traded imo.

I doubt Hughes really cares if Meier is payed slightly more then him, He has a good contract and the GM drafted his brother so he could play with him. Signing Meier and Bratt might make us a bit top heavy which is a concern but our entire bottom 6 are all RFA's and UFA's so we the cash to make it work.

I'm personally on the trade Bratt train but I know a lot of other Devils fans aren't. Just seems like the Devils have enough "Bratt" players and while both him and Meier didn't have a good playoff at least Meier brought a different dimension to the team that we've been lacking.

Oh man you’d get a sweet deal if your gonna shop Bratt.

Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate it

I’m on the same train as you . It’s not to say I don’t like Bratt or that he isn’t any good. It’s just that we need a different type of player . Just an example of the type - Wilson.
Toffoli is not what the Devils need.

Most Flames and Carolina fans agree a late 23 first is a fair price for a deal. So that's the starting price.

Hughes signed his deal at 20, 2.5 years into his career and had 4+ years of control left. That was also nearly 2 years ago.

Meier will be getting his new deal at 26, with only 1 year of team control left.

The situations are not really comparable at all.

Why wouldn't they? Hughes is significantly underpaid, and got his contract based on a mix of previous results and potential. Hughes was coming off a season of 31 points in 56 games. It wasn't until after he signed that deal that he became the superstar he is today.

As for Timo he could be paid more because he has arbitration rights, has a qualifying offer of 10 million, and has results.
