Jonathan Toews will not play next season but is not retiring (Updated: Agent says looking to return next season)

A team could do no wrong by signing him to a minimum, salary deal. if it doesn't work out, you waive him and either bury him or agree to terminate his contract.

I think he'll get that vs a PTO. There's no risk for teams.

As much as I'd like for him to spend his entire career in a. Blackhawks jersey, he'd be a great bottom six addition for any contender or team looking to get over the hump.

Like Toronto? Lol

Maybe hometown Jets?

I definitely don't want him on the Wings, but how surreal would it be to see him and Kane wearing the Winged Wheel?

This is an honest question... why wouldn't Chicago want him? Sign him for a one year deal, have him around to help teach the kids how to play, if he ends up being ok then maybe sign him to a multi-year deal after, also for cheap. Even if he's bad, he's probably still going to be at least ok defensively, would probably help keep the goals against down. And it's not like they have anyone better he'll be taking ice time from.

I honestly don't get why Chicago hasn't done this already

From my perspective (which is likely wrong), the only reason the Hawks don’t want Toews is because of Davidson’s ego trying to make this turn of the franchise completely fresh. Say what you want about Toews, but his leadership and experience would be invaluable for Bedard. Hawks would be dumb to not pursue him

Feel like he would be an excellent fit with Carolina, he gets to return to a contender and they gain a solid 3/4C with ample playoff experience

Devils or Blues could also be solid matches outside of the obvious Jets connection

Really hope the Jets can snag him.

He's a hometown guy, the team should be a contender again this year, and we have spots up for grabs at 2C and 3C to start the season with Lowry out.

I'll be surprised if that's where he'll sign. Most North Americans don't seem to want to play where they're from.

Being a prophet in your hometown, and all that.

He’s almost surely washed. I wish him luck but it’s unlikely we see him get beyond a PTO.

That being said, I hope he proves me wrong. Lots of teams could use a proven winner and leader in their room. I could see a team like the Ducks being a darkhorse contender to give him a shot.
